“Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!”

World AIDS Day 2024: A Message from Dr. Yasir Hayat Taj, HIV Program Officer, Integrated HIV, Hepatitis, and Thalassemia Control Program, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On this World AIDS Day 2024, we come together to raise awareness about the challenges of HIV and to reflect on the progress made in combating this epidemic. This year’s theme, "Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!," emphasizes that every individual, regardless of their HIV status, has the right to access healthcare, live with dignity, and receive necessary care and treatment.

A critical part of our efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the Prevention of Parent-to-Child Transmission (PPTCT) program. Through this essential initiative, we are working to break the chain of HIV transmission from HIV-positive mothers to their newborns. The PPTCT/PMTCT services provide life-saving interventions, including antiretroviral therapy, to prevent the transmission of HIV during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.

As part of the Integrated HIV, Hepatitis, and Thalassemia Control Program, we are expanding access to these vital services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By ensuring early testing, timely treatment, and comprehensive care, we are empowering HIV-positive women to give birth to HIV-free children, which is a critical step toward eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

On this important day, I urge all expectant mothers, healthcare providers, and communities to embrace the importance of early HIV testing and access to PPTCT services. Through collective efforts, we can ensure that every child is born free from HIV, and we can reduce the burden of HIV/AIDS in future generations.

Let us continue our work to break the chain of transmission and make sure that no child is born with HIV. Together, we can create a future where healthcare is a right for everyone, and the fight against HIV continues to make progress.

Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!

World AIDS Day 2024: A Message from Dr. Tariq Hayat Taj, Project Director, Integrated HIV, Hepatitis, and Thalassemia Control Program, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On this World AIDS Day 2024, I stand in solidarity with individuals living with HIV, healthcare workers, and all those committed to the fight against HIV. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the need to unite, educate, and act towards a world where every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy life, free from stigma and discrimination.

This year’s theme, "Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!," resonates deeply with the mission of our Integrated HIV, Hepatitis, and Thalassemia Control Program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We believe that access to healthcare, prevention, testing, and treatment is a fundamental human right for everyone, including those living with HIV.

Our program continues to expand services, raise awareness, and ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against HIV. We are committed to providing comprehensive care to those affected, promoting regular testing, and reducing the barriers that prevent people from accessing the support they need.

As we mark this important day, I urge everyone to get informed, get tested, and encourage those around you to do the same. By working together, we can eliminate stigma, improve care, and ensure that everyone has access to the health services they deserve.

Let us all take a stand for health equality and contribute to a future where HIV is no longer a barrier to living a fulfilling life.
