# 1. Elimination
This is the most effective method of hazard control, where the hazard is completely removed or eliminated from the workplace.

Example:
- Removing a hazardous chemical from a process and replacing it with a safer alternative.
- Eliminating the need to work at height by designing a process that can be completed at ground level.

# 2. Substitution
Involves replacing a hazardous process or substance with a safer one, without significantly changing the process.

Example:
- Replacing a toxic solvent with a less toxic one in a cleaning process.
- Using an electric-powered tool instead of a gasoline-powered one to reduce emissions and noise.

# 3. Engineering Controls
These controls involve making physical changes to the workplace or equipment to reduce exposure to hazards.

Example:
- Installing ventilation systems to remove airborne contaminants.
- Adding machine guards to prevent contact with moving parts.
- Implementing soundproofing measures to reduce noise levels.

# 4. Administrative Controls
This involves changing work practices, procedures, or policies to reduce exposure to hazards. It doesn't eliminate the hazard but reduces the risk of exposure.

Example:
- Establishing safety procedures and training employees to follow them.
- Rotating workers through different tasks to minimize exposure to repetitive strain.
- Scheduling maintenance tasks during low-traffic times to reduce risks.

# 5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE is used to protect workers from hazards when other controls are not feasible or do not sufficiently reduce the risk. This is considered the last line of defense because it requires correct use and consistent compliance by workers.

Example:
- Wearing hard hats and safety goggles to protect against falling objects.
- Using earplugs or earmuffs to protect against high noise levels.
- Donning respirators to filter out hazardous airborne particles.
