Whenever you visit a radiologist for ultrasound of your kidneys, bladder and prostate, make sure that you have consumed 0.5 to 1 litre of water, 1hour befote leaving the house. This way your bladder will be adequately filled by the time you reach for your ultrasound and precise evalutaion of these organs will be possible.

جون کا مہینہ میڈیکل کی دنیا میں آدمیوں کی صحت کے مہینے کے طور پر منایا جاتا ہے.

الٹراساؤنڈ اور آدمیوں کی صحت

پراسٹیٹ کا بڑھنا (جسے عام زبان میں مردانہ غدود کا بڑھنا کہا جاتا ہے) آدمیوں کی بڑھتی عمر کے ساتھ پیدا ہونے والی بیماریوں میں سے ایک ہے جسمیں غدود کے بڑھنے سے مثانے کی نالی پر دباؤ آنے کے باعث تکلیف دہ علامات پیدا ہوتی ہیں اور مثانہ خالی کرنے میں مشکل پیش آتی ہے.

ساٹھ سال عمر تک 50٪ مرد اس پیماری کا شکار ہوتے ہیں اور یہ شرح 90 سال کی عمر میں 90٪ کو پہنچ جاتی ہے.

اگر آپ یا آپ کے بزرگ اس عمر میں ہیں اور آپکی فیملی ہسٹری میں غدود بڑھنے کی بیماری موجود ہے یا آپکو ذیابیطس، بلڈ پریشر یا دل کی بیماری لاحق ہے تو آپکو پراسٹیٹ بڑھنے کی بیماری لاحق ہونے کا رسک بڑھ جاتا ہے.

اگر آپ کو مندرجہ ذیل علامات ہیں تو آپکو اپنے یورالوجسٹ اور الٹراساؤنڈ سپیشلسٹ کو دکھانا چاہئے.

1. پیشاب شروع کرنے میں دشواری ہونا
2. بار بار پیشاب کرنا
3. پیشاب روکنے میں دشواری ہونا
4. پیشاب کرنے کے بعد بھی مثانے میں پیشاب رہنا
5. رات میں نیند کے دوران بار بار پیشاب کے لیے اٹھنا
6. پیشاب کی دھار کمزور ہونا یا دھار کا بار بار ٹوٹنا
7. پیشاب کے بعد قطرے گرنا
8. کپڑوں میں غیر ارادی طور پر پیشاب کا نکلنا

الٹراساؤنڈ بڑھے ہوئے پراسٹیٹ کی جانچ، تشخیص اور پڑتال کا سب سے پہلا ٹیسٹ ہے جو کہ بلا تکلیف، کم وقت میں فوری طور پر کیا جا سکتا ہے اور پراسٹیٹ کے سائز کا درست اندازہ لگا کر علاج شروع کرنے میں مدد دیتا ہے.

June is Men's Health Month!!

Ultrasound and Men's Health.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a very commen condition in men of old age. Although, it is a normal part of aging but it can cause some troublesome urinary symptoms in some men which can effect the quality of life.

In this disease, the size of prostate increases and pinches on urethra which causes obstruction in outflow of bladder and results in inability to empty the bladder completely.

50% of men around 60 years old have BPH and the incidence raises to 90% in men aged 90 years.

If you or men around you, are in the above age bracket or you have positive family history of BPH, have diabetes, hypertensiom, heart disease or diabetes, there is a greater risk of developing BPH.

Also, if you have following symptoms
1. Urinary hesitancy (difficulty initiating urination)
2. urinary frequency (urination eight or more times a day)
3. urinary urgency (the inability to delay urination)
4. Incomplete emptying of bladder
5. nocturia (frequent urination during periods of sleep)
6. a weak or an interrupted urine stream
7. dribbling at the end of urination
8 urinary incontinence—the accidental loss of urine

Kindly visit your urologist and radiologist and get your ultrasound done as it is the first line of investigation for screening and diagnosing BPH.

Ultrasound for BPH is a non-invasive and painless procedure by which a radiologist can easily estimate the size of prostate and hence treatment can be given. Also, the first ultrasound acts as a baseline for future follow-up scans, to see the efficacy of treatment.
