🤝 Social Interaction – Playing with friends teaches teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving.

Attended a seminar on neurodiversity at Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital by Dr. Khurram Sadiq, Consultant Neurodevelopmental Psychiatrist.

Key takeaways from the seminar

▪In the past an autistic mother is sometimes referred as a "refrigerator mother."

▪Adult ADHD was officially recognized in 2012.

▪Neuro-affirmative approach:
A strength-based approach that focuses on
identifying an individual's strengths.

▪ Social Model of Disability
The social model of disability sees disability as a result of societal barriers rather than an individual's condition. It emphasizes changing the environment, attitudes, and systems to create inclusivity.

▪"Everybody is normal" is a completely different.

▪Normal people don’t like different people (a sad reality).

▪Not everything needs to be fixed.

▪Some conditions are not curable, but they are manageable.

▪It is very difficult to promote neurodiversity in a society that lacks socio-economic stability.

▪Fanfic: is a type of writing where fans create their own stories based on existing books, movies, TV shows, video games, or other media. These stories can expand on the original work, explore alternate storylines, or focus on side characters.

▪When a flower doesn’t bloom, you don’t fix the flower; you fix the environment.

Also learned a lot from other esteemed guests like Dr. Modat Rana, whose insights were truly enriching.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr sabahat hameed consultant psychiatrist for organizing such an insightful seminar. Your dedication to spreading awareness is deeply appreciated.

Looking forward to more such enlightening sessions!
