Animals eat to obtain nutrients for a variety of reasons. Of greatest priority is their need to meet their maintenance requirement, the basic bodily functions necessary to sustain life. Young animals eat greater than maintenance intake so that they can grow. After a meal, the body rapidly stores absorbed nutrients so that they will be available for later use. There are several levels of regulation of metabolism. Metabolites themselves can regulate metabolic pathways through end product inhibition or allosteric regulation of key rate-limiting enzymes. This level of regulation may be important for homeostasis, but endocrine regulation is most important .Endocrine factors are bioactive compound secreted by an endocrine gland into the bloodstream to alter the function of a target cell in a different tissue. Endocrine control of feed intake in animals and humans is most important. The below are some of the hormones related to endocrine control of feed intake.
