Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi, was established in 1997 and is imparting education in Bachelor in Dental surgery (B.D.S), Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. It is a matter of pride that till now nine batches of BDS and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) has passed out. Some of its dental graduates have done their M.Sc, FCPS and PhD in various sub specialties from various internationally known Universities including Queens Marry and University of London, U.K. Our physiotherapists are also performing well with in the country and abroad. During the last Earthquake a large number of our physiotherapists contributed at various rehabilitation centers established by national and international agencies. Margalla College of Dentistry has the unique distinction of being the only institution in Rawalpindi whose B.D.S program has been recognized by Federal Health Ministry/ Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) since 2003 and is affiliated with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore since 2004. The well experienced and highly qualified teaching staff, of Margalla Collage of Dentistry has started FCPS training in Orthodontics and Operative Dentistry since 2010, which have been approved by College of Physician and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). All latest basic scientific instruments and appliances have been made available in its dental hospital which comprises 100 dental units, and is for the clinical training of students most modern technique. A new academic block has recently been constructed which is duly equipped with all necessary basic amenities like Audio-Visual Aids, Multimedia, Projectors, etc. Our new Learning Resource Centre comprises, digital library which have internet facilities for undergraduate as well postgraduate students to get latest knowledge about their subjects and remain embraced with the latest developments taking place around the globe. It also has Library comprising more than 4500 Books besides reference books, journals, and magazine which are maintained and updated from time to time. Margalla Institute of Health Sciences is determined to provide the best possible education and knowledge in different areas of health sciences. Recently it has embarked upon a new important discipline of medical science namely. Doctor of Pharmacy which is a five years degree program after F.Sc / A level. The curriculum designed is precisely in line with the recommendation of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan (PCP), Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the latest trends being followed in the various developed countries of the world. During the past 5 years the profession of Pharmacy has attained great importance and significance internationally for ensuring the safe, effective and rational use of drugs, owing to the unprecedented demand of qualified pharmacist in various sectors like hospital pharmacy, industrial pharmacy, retail pharmacy and regulatory agencies. Pharmacists play a vital role in improving patient care through the medication and information they provide. In a survey recently conducted it is the third largest health profession in the United States. The facility developed in the MIHS includes new laboratories for various main subjects on pharmaceutical sciences, provision of new lecture halls which are all equipped with latest audio visual aids. It is the first pharmacy institute in Rawalpindi city both in public and private sector. The new facility has already been inspected and granted affiliation followed by its registration / NOC from the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan. The 4th batch of Pharmacy will be inducted this year (2014).
