The three stages of frozen shoulder are:
Freezing
The initial, painful phase where the shoulder's range of motion is gradually restricted. Pain is often worse at night. This stage can last up to nine months.
Frozen :
The second phase where the shoulder becomes stiffer, but the pain may lessen. This stage can last up to 20 months.
Thawing:
The third phase where the shoulder's range of motion gradually returns. This stage can last up to 26 months.
Frozen shoulder :
also known as adhesive capsulitis, occurs when inflammation causes the shoulder joint capsule to thicken and tighten. This makes it harder for the shoulder to move and rotate.
Treatment options include:
Pain medication to help with comfort and recovery
Heat or ice packs
Shoulder exercises to improve movement and pain
Corticosteroid injections to help with pain
Most cases of frozen shoulder improve on their own, but some can take over a year to resolve.
