Temporary Dialysis Cathter/Double lumen catheter| Insertion method, use, complications and care|

Dialysis is an artificial method to treat end stage renal disease ESRD patients. Dialysis is a life saving treatment in patients with kidney failure. In this video we will discuss what is temporary dialysis catheter/double lumen catheter, what is the best method of insertion, use , complications and care associated with it.
Hemodialysis or HD catheter or dialysis line or central line for dialysis is used to treat patients with renal failure who require dialysis in emergency conditions, when patients are critical or require dialysis for short duration.
Best technique to pass temporary dialysis catheter is ultrasound guided insertion. HD line can be passed into internal jugular vein, subclavian vein or femoral vein. Best site is internal jugular because of low rate of complications of dialysis catheters.
Complications of temporary dialysis catheter/double lumen catheters is bleeding, lung injury, haematoma and infections. Complications can be reduced if line is passed under ultrasound and if good care is taken in the form of keeping it clean and doing daily dressing and changing it permanent hemodialysis catheter if dialysis catheter is required for longer durations.
