Alhakeem Shifakhana® established in 1799, is an old foundation that has an around 200 years old legacy to its honorable name. The success story is studded with some sensational achievements to its credit. The crown of Alhakeem Shifakhana® is duly embellished with some of the finest jewels of their time that have been curing the ailing and hence relieving them of their pains. In this whole effort, they explored different branches of medicine raging from the Ayurveda to the Islamic system of medicine, and in this radiant rainbow every “Hakeem” has a beautiful color and shade of his own.
The first man who pioneered this esteemed organization was Hakeem Karam Elahi (1772 to 1872). He started his practice in remote area of Gurdaspur (India) where he was a local land-owner. In an age of slow transportation and poor roads, it was quite an uphill task for patients to have easy access to standard treatment. Mindful of their problems, Hakeem Karam Elahi took up the mission to cure the people around.
Naturally, he began from Ayurvedic system of medicine which was immediately available to him and quite popular as well in those times. He resorted to the renowned Hakeems of the age to become a regular Hakeem, and earnestly received medical education from them. As he was a relentless seeker of excellence, so he traveled to Kashmir for gathering a number of local herbs. This gave depth and variety to his practice.
Hakeem Noor Elahi (1792 to 1897)
Hakeem Karam Elahi then imparted his hard-earned knowledge to his son Hakeem Noor Elahi (1792 to 1897). Hakeem Noor Elahi proved himself to be an able disciple of the able father. He not only took over this inheritance with honesty but also expanded it.
It was he who acted upon the saying of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) by travelling to Kashgar (China) to learn the Chinese system of medicine. Though, at this stage of his age, he was not able to travel further for the knowledge of medicine he passed on this thirst for more knowledge along with the already achieved one to his son Hakeem Qaim ud Din (1831 to 1923).
Hakeem Qaim ud Din (1831 to 1923)
Hakeem Qaim ud Din was an ardent lover of knowledge. His thirst for knowledge carried him to Iraq which was a great center of knowledge in those days. He also benefited from the Hakeems of Iran during this journey. In Iraq, he had all the opportunity to gain knowledge of the loftiest order and he availed himself of every bit of it.
There he got real expertise in Greek (Unani) and Islamic systems of medicine. On his return to his homeland, he not only treated patients but also started giving education of medicine to his children and other people. He was survived by a number of students behind him, but it was his son Hakeem Nizam ud Din (1863 to 1944) who inherited the family tradition of medicine and carried it on.
Hakeem Nizam ud Din (1863 to 1944)
Inheriting such a rich legacy and maintaining it was a herculean task and only a person of the stature of Hakeem Nizam ud Din could do justice with it. He not only maintained the clinic but also paid attention to the incoming students who were keenly desirous of equipping themselves with the knowledge of medicine. And hence he continued it until he handed this legacy on to Hakeem Ilm ud Din (1905 to 1994).
Hakeem Ilm ud Din (1905 to 1994)
When Hakeem Ilm ud Din took over, it was not the easiest of times as the country was politically up-heaved and the movement for Pakistan was in full swing. Consequently, he had to migrate from his native land to the new born Pakistan. Here, though he was entangled with the issues of land allotment, first in Mirpurkhas (Sindh) and then at Gujranwala (Punjab), but he spared time to train his son Hakeem Muhammad Nazir (1928 to 1999) to carry on with the old task of serving the ailing humanity.
Hakeem Muhammad Nazir (1928 to 1999)
Hakeem Muhammad Nazir stationed himself at Dharampura, Lahore and kept spreading the light of medicine in the area as well as teaching it to students. He was basically a God-drunk man and led a life of celibacy. He invited his young nephew, Hakeem Muhammad Imran Attari (1977 to date), to Lahore and trained him in the art of medicine.
Hakeem Muhammad Imran Attari (1977 till date)
It was under the auspice of Hakeem Muhammad Nazir that Hakeem Muhammad Imran Attari received his early education. Hakeem Muhammad Imran Attari proved a very eager learner and showed profound interest in this art as well as family legacy. He first got command over this inheritance and then focused his attention to the latest development in this field. He also received this precious knowledge from his maternal grandfather Hakeem Haji Muhammad Aslam (1919 to 2011).
In his quest for further knowledge of Simple Organ Pathy, he went to respected Mr. Hakeem Muhammad Iqbal Numbardar and Mr. Hakeem Moazzam Fareed (he grandson of Hakeem Dost Muhammad Sabir Multani). Hakeem Muhammad Imran Attari received formal education of B.U.M.S (Bachelor of Unani Medical Science) Fazil ut Tibb Wal Jarahat.
