"جب کھانسی نے ہار مان لی!"

میں رات کے وقت بستر پر لیٹا کھانس رہا تھا۔ کھانسی تھی کہ ختم ہونے کا نام نہیں لے رہی تھی۔ گلا جلنے لگا، سانس لینا مشکل ہوگیا، اور سر میں ہلکا سا درد بھی ہونے لگا۔ میں نے پانی پیا، مگر کوئی فرق نہیں پڑا۔

"بس بہت ہو گیا!" میں نے خود سے کہا اور کمبل میں منہ چھپا لیا۔

اچانک، میں نے ایک ہلکی سی آواز سنی، جیسے کوئی سرگوشی کر رہا ہو۔

"میں مدد کر سکتا ہوں!"

میں نے حیران ہو کر ادھر ادھر دیکھا، مگر کمرے میں کوئی نہیں تھا۔

"میں یہاں ہوں، تمہاری جڑی بوٹیوں میں!" آواز دوبارہ آئی۔

میں نے چونک کر کچن کی طرف دیکھا۔ میز پر ایک پودے کے پتّے رکھے تھے جو میں نے صبح بازار سے لیے تھے۔

"کون ہو تم؟" میں نے پوچھا۔

"میں آئیوی لیف ہوں!" وہ نرمی سے بولا۔ "مجھے صدیوں سے کھانسی کے علاج کے لیے استعمال کیا جا رہا ہے، مگر تم نے مجھے ابھی تک آزمایا نہیں!"

میں نے حیرت سے پتّے کو اٹھایا، "تو تم کھانسی ختم کر سکتے ہو؟"

"بالکل! میں تمہارے پھیپھڑوں میں جمع بلغم کو نرم کرتا ہوں تاکہ وہ آسانی سے خارج ہو سکے۔ میں سانس کی نالی کو کھولتا ہوں، اور تمہاری سانسیں بحال کر دیتا ہوں!"

میں سوچنے لگا کہ کیا واقعی ایسا ممکن ہے؟

اتنے میں ایک اور آواز آئی، "اور میں ہوں ملٹھی!"

میں نے نظر گھمائی تو سامنے ایک پتلی، بھوری جڑ رکھی تھی۔

"تم بھی کچھ کہہ رہی ہو؟" میں نے حیرت سے پوچھا۔

"ہاں! میں تمہارے گلے کو سکون دوں گی، کھانسی کی خراش کم کروں گی، اور تمہیں نیند لینے دوں گی!"

"تو تم دونوں مل کر کھانسی کو ہرا سکتے ہو؟" میں نے دلچسپی سے پوچھا۔

"ہاں! اگر تم مجھے پانی میں ابال کر پیو گے، یا کسی اچھے ہربل شربت میں لو گے، تو تمہیں فوراً فرق محسوس ہوگا!" آئیوی لیف نے کہا۔

"اور اگر مجھے دن بھر آواز صاف اور گلا بہتر رکھنا ہو تو؟" میں نے ملٹھی سے پوچھا۔

"تو بس مجھے چبا لینا! میں تمہارے گلے میں ایک حفاظتی تہہ بنا دوں گی، اور تمہیں کھانسی سے محفوظ رکھوں گی!" ملٹھی نے جواب دیا۔

میں نے فوراً چولہا جلایا، پانی میں آئیوی لیف اور ملٹھی ڈالی، اور چند منٹ بعد ایک خوشبودار قہوہ تیار کر کے پی لیا۔

کچھ دیر بعد، جیسے کوئی جادو ہوا ہو، کھانسی کم ہونے لگی، سانس آسان ہوگئی، اور گلے کی جلن بھی کم ہوگئی۔

"واقعی، تم دونوں حیرت انگیز ہو!" میں نے مسکرا کر کہا۔
