"Hi,
I wanted to know if you would be interested in sharing a story about a strange jacket I own.
A few years ago I purchased this jacket at a militaria show in Rome, Italy. I’m trying to understand whether the jacket is original or whether the patch has been added later. I found a newspaper clipping in Vietnamese underneath the patch (see pictures). The clipping used to have a velcro strap attached to part of it, and another velcro strap was stuck to the patch. However the patch is stitched to the jacket.
The only identifications present on the jacket are the newspaper clipping, the letter “H” and number “01” on the jacket tag and the spray painted insignia “DE 1030 1ST L.T.”
After browsing the internet I found that “DE 1030” was the identification name for the USS Joseph K. Taussig. This lead me to contact a representative of the ship who informed me that as the Joseph K Taussig was a US east coast ship, it never went to Vietnam.
It would be great if anybody had some further information to establish its authenticity. Thanks."
