On 21 November 2025, pioneering hands-on workshops dedicated to ultrasound-guided cryoneurolysis in the treatment of spasticity were held at the hospital on Milionowa Street in Łódź, Poland.
Metrum Cryoflex had the privilege to act as the event’s patron and sponsor as well as to invite a highly respected expert in spasticity treatment and pain management, Dr. José PEREIRA M.D. to lead the workshops together with Dr. Chantraine Frédéric, with whom he has been conducting cryoneurolysis trainings across Europe.

A group of 26 physicians from , medicine, and took part in this intensive training. The workshop consisted of two live procedures, which participants highly appreciated for its practical, clinical value.

A particularly memorable part of the event was the participation of two who underwent cryoneurolysis during the live session. Both patients felt and observed immediate improvements, demonstrating the real therapeutic potential of this technique. They were the first patients in to be treated with cryoneurolysis for spasticity — true pioneers and heroes of this landmark moment for Polish medicine.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Elżbieta Miller and the Management of the hospital, whose support and coordination made it possible to conduct these workshops in a environment that ensured the highest level of safety and comfort for the patients.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

We are looking forward to further spreading the knowledge how to treat pain caused by spasticity and to bringing relief to all the impacted patients. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This event brought together pain physicians, orthopedic and spinal surgeons, and rehabilitation specialists from around the world — all focused on advancing interventional pain management techniques.

For the medical community, this day is more than just symbolic - it’s a reminder that pain is a disease in its own right, and its effective management requires an interdisciplinary approach and access to advanced therapeutic technologies.

According to data from the European Pain Federation (EFIC), 1 in 5 European adults (19%) suffers from moderate to severe chronic pain. That’s over 150M patients across Europe, many of whom still receive inadequate care or rely primarily on pharmacological treatment - often involving opioids.

During the CWIG World Congress in Nagano, nine presentations and four posters on cryotherapy for pain relief were presented. This method, based exclusively on EBM, has influenced changes in pain management, which is an extremely important part of surgery. Thanks to cryoanalgesia, the amount of opioids used has decreased and the length of children’s hospital stays has been reduced. NUSS surgeries have become an example of the implementation and application of the ERAS protocol. Discussions focused on optimizing the procedure based on clinical experience from several hundred thousand cryanalgesia procedures. The next congress in 2026 will be held in Belgium.
