Emigration Station in Danzig
This was a place steeped in the stories of human journeys and migrations. Here thousands of people, men and women with little kids often with just a small suitcase, kept waiting for the departure date from the Port of Danzig and to set off into the unknown. The building was not the home of the emigrants-to-be in Danzig.

Would you add Malbork Castle to your bucket list?

Most people think of castles and picture England. France. Germany.

They've never heard of Malbork.

Built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Knights in northern Poland, Malbork Castle is the largest castle in the world by land area — covering 52 acres of red brick fortress on the banks of the Nogat River.

To put that in perspective: Vatican City covers about 110 acres total. Malbork's castle complex alone covers nearly half of that.

It took over 100 years to build. At its peak, it housed 3,000 knights and their full military operation. It withstood sieges, wars, and centuries of conflict.

During WWII, it was 50% destroyed. Poland rebuilt it brick by brick from historical records and old photographs.

Today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited castles in Europe — yet most Americans have never heard of it.

Have you ever visited a castle? Would you add Malbork to your bucket list?
