We’re honored to take part in the interdisciplinary symposium "Pain and Suffering", organized by the Association of Graduates of Medical Faculties of the Jagiellonian University, in collaboration with the Polish Society for the Study of Pain, the Department of Pain Research and Treatment, and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Jagiellonian University Medical College.

We’re excited to share our latest article published in Psychological Review!
How do emotions like fear and anxiety influence our responses to a placebo?
📖This article introduces a theoretical model that explains how a relatively stable tendency to react with fear and anxiety, along with the actual experience of these emotions, contributes to the development of placebo hypoalgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia.

European Pain Federation EFIC congress in Lyon was very fruitful! Our Pain Research Group from Instytut Psychologii UJ Wydział Filozoficzny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego Uniwersytet Jagielloński presented 8 posters showcasing our ongoing and recently completed studies on placebo and nocebo effects — with two selected for the poster walk!

Big thanks to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and engaged in discussions — your feedback will help us write even better papers based on these results.

W zeszłym tygodniu Prof. Przemysław Bąbel wygłosił wykład pt: „Jak leczy (i szkodzi) placebo? Od wyników badań nad placebo do ich zastosowań w praktyce lekarskiej.” na X Jubileuszowej Konferencji Medycyny Rodzinnej w Krakowie.

Last week Prof. Przemysław Bąbel, the head of PRG, gave a lecture entitled: "How does placebo cure (and harm)? From the results of placebo research to their applications in medical practice.” at the 10th Jubilee Conference of Family Medicine in Krakow.

Na tegorocznym IX Sympozjum Polskiego Towarzystwa Badań nad Bólem pt. „Postępy w leczeniu bólu.” w Krakowie młodzi badacze z naszego zespołu zaprezentowali plakaty przedstawiające wyniki badań prowadzonych w Laboratorium Badania Bólu.
Otrzymaliśmy także wyróżnienie za najlepszy plakat pt: „Polska adaptacja Skróconej Skali Lęku Związanego z Bólem. Właściwości psychometryczne w grupie osób z przewlekłym bólem”.

On the 9th Symposium of Polish Society for the Study of Pain entitled "Advances in pain treatment." in Cracow young researchers from our team presented posters with the results of research run in PRG lab.
We also got distinction for the best poster:„Polish Adaptation of the Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale 20: Psychometric Properties in Individuals with Chronic Pain.”

Zespół Badania Bólu uczestniczy w IX Sympozjum Polskiego
Towarzystwa Badania Bólu pt. „Postępy w leczeniu bólu” w Krakowie. Wczoraj wygłoszone zostały prelekcje w sesji „Społeczny kontekst bólu: jak interakcje społeczne wpływają na ból”. Prof. Przemysław Bąbel przedstawił wprowadzenie do tematu, dr Elżbieta Bajcar omówiła rolę kontekstu społecznego w nasilaniu i redukcji bólu, a dr Aleksandra Budzisz zaprezentowała związek między informacjami społecznymi a kształtowaniem percepcji ciała.

PRG Team participates in the 9th Symposium of Polish Society for the Study of Pain entitled "Advances in pain treatment." in Cracow. Yesterday lectures were given in the session "The social context of pain: how social interactions influence pain". Prof. Przemysław Bąbel presented an introduction to the topic, Dr. Elżbieta Bajcar discussed the role of the social context in the intensification and reduction of pain, and Dr. Aleksandra Budzisz presented the relationship between social information and shaping body perception.

W zeszłym tygodniu Prof. Przemysław Bąbel wygłosił gościnny wykład pt. „Moc z niczego, czyli jak działa placebo” na Inauguracji roku akademickiego 2024/2025 na Uniwersytecie SWPS w Poznaniu.

Last Friday Prof. Przemysław Bąbel gave an invited lecture entitled "Power from nothing, or how placebo works" at the Inauguration of the academic year 2024/2025 of SWPS University in Poznań.

Prof. Przemysław Bąbel uczestniczy w kongresie DGPs/ÖGP w Wiedniu, gdzie wygłosił wykład pt. "Mechanizmy uczenia się efektu placebo i nocebo w bólu."

Prof. Przemysław Bąbel participates in the DGPs/ÖGP congress in Vienna, where he gave a lecture entitled "Learning mechanisms of placebo and nocebo effects in pain."

Dr Magdalena Żegleń z naszego zespołu uczestniczyła w 23 Konferencji Europejskiego Towarzystwa Antropologicznego w Zagrzebiu.
Zaprezentowała plakat z wynikami badań pt. „Nic nie może cię zmotywować? Wpływ interwencji placebo na parametry sprawnościowe młodzieży o różnej masie ciała i stanie składu ciała – rola motywacji w aktywności fizycznej” i zdobyła nagrodę EAA Early Career Researcher Award za najlepszą prezentację plakatową!

A member of PRG team – PhD Magdalena Żegleń – participated in 23rd Conference of European Antrophology Association in Zagreb.
She presented the poster with research results: „Can nothing motivate you? The effects of placebo intervention on fitness – related parameters of adolescents with varying body mass and composition status – the role of motivation in physical activity” and won EAA Early Career Researcher Award for the best poster presentation!

W zeszłym tygodniu przedstawiciele PRG wzięli udział w 54 dorocznym kongresie Europejskiego Stowarzyszenia Terapii Behawioralnych i Poznawczych (EABCT) w Belgradzie.
Prof. Przemysław Bąbel przewodniczył sesji i wygłosił wykład pt: „Udoskonalanie protokołów terapii poznawczo-behawioralnej w przypadku bólu przewlekłego: przełożenie podstaw nauki na praktykę kliniczną”. Mgr Helena Bieniek zaprezentowała plakat: „Rola wzmocnienia w terapii poznawczo-behawioralnej bólu przewlekłego.”
To był inspirujący czas w gronie międzynarodowych ekspertów CBT.

Last week PRG delegates participated in 54th annual congress of the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT) in Belgrad, Serbia.
Prof. Przemysław Bąbel was a chair of session and gave a lecture “Improving CBT Protocols for Chronic Pain: Translating Basic Science to Clinical Practice.” MA Helena Bieniek presented a poster: „The role of reinforcement in cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain.” It was an inspiring time with international CBT experts.
