Mili moi.

“Charlotte Weaver, DO, proposed motion in the cranium (metamorphosis). While there were no recorded instances of peer ridicule, it undoubtedly occurred. Despite her record of publishing articles on her theory, lecturing extensively, and teaching some students, her work has been largely ignored and relegated to obscurity.

“Weaver was a contemporary of Sutherland. It is interesting that they both became interested in the cranial mechanism as students in the American School of Osteopathy, Kirksville, Missouri. Sutherland was struck with the idea that the cranial bones were designed for motion, while Weaver became interested in cranial circulation and was encouraged to pursue this study by Still himself. Weaver became convinced that the bones of the skull represented modified vertebrae.” (Which has since been proven by electron microscopy, my addition.)

Przypominajka przy poniedziałku:)

“The paradigm of the modern scientific method is Kant’s “appointed judge who compels the witness to answer questions which he has himself formulated”. Science believes itself to be objective, but is in essence subjective because the witness is compelled to answer questions which the scientist himself has formulated. Scientists never notice the circularity in this because they hear the voice of ‘nature’ speaking, not realising that it is the transposed echo of their own voice.”

Henri Bortoft, The Wholeness of Nature: Goethe’s Way of Science, 1996.

‚Wonder is where it starts, and though wonder is also where it ends, this is no futile path. Whether admiring a patch of moss, a crystal, flower, or golden beetle, a sky full of clouds, a sea with the serene, vast sigh of its swells, or a butterfly wing with its arrangement of crystalline ribs, contours, and the vibrant bezel of its edges, the diverse scripts and ornamentations of its markings, and the infinite, sweet, delightfully inspired transitions and shadings of its colors — whenever I experience part of nature, whether with my eyes or another of the five senses, whenever I feel drawn in, enchanted, opening myself momentarily to its existence and epiphanies, that very moment allows me to forget the avaricious, blind world of human need, and rather than thinking or issuing orders, rather than acquiring or exploiting, fighting or organizing, all I do in that moment is ‘wonder,’ like Goethe, and not only does this wonderment establish my brotherhood with him, other poets, and sages, it also makes me a brother to those wondrous things I behold and experience as the living world: butterflies and moths, beetles, clouds, rivers and mountains, because while wandering down the path of wonder, I briefly escape the world of separation and enter the world of unity.’ H.Hesse

Iris Murdoch thought our inner lives are too often clogged by the “fat, relentless ego”. By contemplating beauty in nature and art, however, we can deflate this ego (a process Murdoch describes as “unselfing”) and open our eyes to reality.

Today is World Philosophy Day, perfect to highlight the philosophy of osteopathy.

“First, there is the material body; second, the spiritual being; third, a being of mind which is far superior to all vital motions and material forms, whose duty is to wisely manage this great engine of life. This great principle, known as mind, must depend for all evidences on the five senses, and on this testimony all mental conclusions are based, and all orders are issued from this mental court to move to any point or stop at any place.” – The Philosophy and Mechanical Principles of Osteopathy by Andrew Taylor Still, page 16-17.https://www.atsu.edu/museum-of-osteopathic-medicine/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/The-Philosophy-and-Mechanical-Principles-of-Osteopathy-by-Still-A-T-1902.pdf

Osteopathy is a Philosophy of Health and System of Healing. It's special method of combatting disease is by adjustments of the human organism and utilizing the body's fluids and forces, substituting nature's recuperative mechanism in place of drugs and other substances."Back of card has print for A.T. “Unfortunately, mathematicians had abandoned God and so the Divine Geometer refused to reveal which of the several competing geometries He had used to design the universe. Mathematicians were thrown upon their own resources. The mere fact that there can be alternative geometries was in itself a shock. But the greater shock was that one could no longer be sure which geometry was true or whether any one of them was true. It became clear that mathematicians had adopted axioms for geometry that seemed correct on the basis of limited experience and had been deluded into thinking that these were self-evident truths. Mathematicians were in the position described by Mark Twain (pictured) : “Man is the religious animal. He’s the only one who’s got the true religion - several of them.””

Morris Kline, Mathematics: The Loss of Certainty, 1980.

“The first stage of abstraction from the concrete reality of organism as experienced is the concept of organism as a psycho-physical unity or individuality.

“The second stage along the path of abstraction - namely, the elimination of the psychical - is one which nowadays is almost universally taken as a matter of course. It is a step of immense importance, for it introduces at once a dualism of matter and mind, and creates between them a dividing line which can never be crossed. To reintroduce mind into living things, to reconstitute the living unity, it is necessary to have recourse to such lame expedients as psycho-physical parallelism or psycho-physical interaction, or to adopt some form of dualistic vitalism.”

E. S. Russell, The Interpretation of Development & Heredity: A Study in Biological Method, 1930.

“You must, in studying Nature, always consider both each single thing and the whole; nothing is inside and nothing is outside, for what is within is without. Make haste, then, to grasp this this holy mystery which is public knowledge.

“Rejoice in the true illusion, in the serious game: no living things is a unity, it is always manifold”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)

“Scientific knowledge is judgement about things that are universal and necessary, and the conclusions of demonstration, and all scientific knowledge, follow from first principles ( for scientific knowledge involves demonstration). This being so, the first principle from which what is scientifically known follows cannot be an object of scientific knowledge, of art, or of practical wisdom; for that which can be scientifically known can be demonstrated, and art and practical wisdom deal with things that are variable.”

Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics.

“The God I worship demonstrates all his works.”

Andrew Taylor Still.
