Watch👇🏼 WHO Europe Regional Director Dr. Hans Kluge on BBC News about this unusually early and intense flu (H3N2) season with many European countries already seeing high influenza activity.

Key takeaways:

✅ Vaccines work — they reduce severity, especially for the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic conditions.
✅ Stay home if you’re sick — don’t spread it at work or school.
✅ Practice good hygiene — wash hands, cover coughs into your elbow, keep indoor spaces ventilated.
✅ Follow trusted health guidance from national authorities and the WHO — avoid misinformation.

Childhood obesity remains a major challenge in Europe—and Poland is no exception!

✅ WHO COSI data (2022–2024):
• Europe: 1 in 4 children aged 7–9 is overweight; 11% are obese.
• Poland: Overweight and obesity are above the regional average.

👉 Learn more: WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI): report on the sixth round of data collection, 2022– 2024 https://www.who.int/europe/publications/i/item/WHO-EURO-2025-11788-51560-78769

Poland is tackling this through the DINO project of Instytut Matki i Dziecka, combining monitoring, school-based prevention, and education campaigns.

The good news? Rapid-impact interventions work:
✅ Front-of-pack nutrition labelling
✅ Food reformulation
✅ Sugary drink taxes

These deliver measurable results within months.
Let’s act now for healthier futures!

✅️Uporczywy kaszel
✅️Odkaszliwanie krwi w fazie zaawansowanej

Chory wymaga odpowiedniej terapii.

🧬Czynniki, które mogą zwiększać ryzyko wystąpienia TB, to cukrzyca, ekspozycja na leki hamujące działanie układu odpornościowego i palenie tytoniu. Najważniejszym jednak czynnikiem jest infekcja wirusem HIV.

🧬Szczepionkę znaną jako szczepionka BCG wprowadzono w 1921 r. Wiadomo, że zapobiega ona niektórym ciężkim postaciom choroby u dzieci.
🧬 zaleca skuteczną identyfikację przypadków i antybiotykoterapię jako najlepszy sposób profilaktyki gruźlicy. Strategie WHO, np.

“Tuberculosis? That’s not my problem.”

This is one of the most dangerous myths. Many people believe TB only affects those living in poverty or far away in less developed countries. The truth? Tuberculosis can affect anyone who breathes —young or old, rich or poor, urban or rural. It’s not about lifestyle, income, or nationality—it’s about awareness.

TB spreads through the air when someone with active TB coughs or sneezes. Symptoms often start small: a cough that lasts more than 2 weeks, fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss. Ignoring these signs can lead to serious illness.

The good news? TB is preventable and curable. Treatment is free in Poland and effective—but only if you act early.

If you have symptoms, don’t wait. Go to the doctor and ask about TB. Protect yourself and those around you.

Let’s break the stigma. TB is not a disease of the past—it’s a present challenge we can overcome together.

💨 COUGH, COUGH! 💨

Did that get your attention? It should - especially if the cough lasts more than 2 weeks.

🌍 In late September, we launched the national campaign:
💡 “Just a cough or a symptom of tuberculosis? Find out!”

Developed for World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Polskie Towarzystwo Chorób Płuc, the campaign raises awareness of tuberculosis (TB: its early symptoms, how it spreads, and how timely diagnosis can save lives.

🤧 TB still affects around 5,000 people annually in Poland.
😮‍💨 Its early symptoms often resemble a cold.
🌬️ It spreads through the air — anyone can be at risk.
Tuberculosis can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or background.
That’s why our campaign speaks to everyone living in Poland, including communities affected by migration.

📢 Since the launch, the campaign has already made a strong impact:
✅ A national press conference bringing together experts, media, and public health advocates.
✅ Two expert interviews with Dr. Ivanna Mazur, sharing practical insights on prevention and awareness.
✅ A nationwide press release that has already resulted in over 550 media publications.
With this campaign, we aim to change perception, increase awareness, and promote early action — because TB is preventable, treatable, and curable.

This activity was implemented within the framework of the project 'WHO Emergency Response for COVID-19, Vaccine-preventable and Other Infectious Diseases in Ukraine and Refugee-Hosting Countries' – Phase III.

This week, the World Health Organization Country Office in Poland participated in the 2025 All Members Meeting of the Główny Urząd Statystyczny (Statistics Poland) in Warsaw.

What began in 2022 as an emergency health response to meet the needs of refugees from Ukraine has evolved into a long-term national initiative—embedding refugee health and equity data within Poland’s official statistical system.

The joint WHO–GUS partnership🤝, showcased through the Health of Refugees in Poland Dashboard, attracted strong interest from national statistical offices, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, World Bank, and international organizations worldwide. The project demonstrates how integrated data systems, mobile network operator analytics, and continuous surveys can transform crisis-driven data into a sustainable foundation for inclusive, evidence-based policymaking.

👏 Warm thanks to the EGRISS Secretariat, UNHCR, WorldBank, the JDC, and all partners committed to ensuring that everyone counts—and is counted.

Coordination today means stronger systems tomorrow – Annual Conference of the National Association of Mental Health Centers

The National Association of Mental Health Centers (OSCzP) convened 10-12 October mental health leaders, practitioners, and policymakers from across Poland for the National Conference on Mental Health Centers in Mikołajki — a milestone dialogue on the future of community-based mental health care in the country.

We were grateful for the opportunity to present World Health Organization Country Office in Poland new report, “Towards a Community-Based Model of Care in Poland” — based on a rapid assessment conducted earlier this year. The report highlights key achievements of the pilot of Community Mental Health Centres (CZP), identifies remaining gaps, and outlines pathways for national scale-up and sustainability.

Throughout the conference, discussions focused on:
- strengthening community-based care and territorial responsibility;
- developing coherent and equitable financing models;
- improving coordination, data, and digital infrastructure;
- supporting the leadership of experts by experience and recovery assistants;
- embedding mental health resilience within national preparedness systems.

Throughout the conference, we actively contributed to discussions on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), coordination, workforce development, and data-informed transition — reaffirming WHO’s continued commitment to supporting national coordination efforts.

🤝 WHO continues to work closely with national partners ensuring inclusive leadership, sustainability, and alignment with international standards and Poland’s Mental Health Protection Programme 2023-2030 and Mental Health Roadmap 2025–2030.
WHO Poland was honored to contribute to these national discussions — reaffirming our commitment to work with the Ministerstwo Zdrowia, the Health Fund, and partners to support national scale up of the community-based model of care, in alignment with international standards.
Together, we are building a future where mental health care in Poland is accessible, integrated, and community-driven.
