PKN ORLEN has signed a final contract with the contractor for Europe’s largest petrochemical project in 20 years. Hyundai Engineering and Técnicas Reunidas will be responsible for building the main units of Olefins Complex III. This key project implemented under PKN ORLEN’s Petrochemical Development Programme will add some PLN 1bn to the company’s annual EBITDA. It will also offer environmental benefits, with carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of product expected to fall by as much as 30% once commercial operations start in 2025. The complex will be built at the site of the Production Plant in Płock and will cover an area of almost 100 ha, or 140 football fields.

For the second quarter of 2021, the ORLEN Group posted record-high LIFO-based EBITDA of PLN 3.2bn, up by a remarkable PLN 1.2bn y/y. The Group’s strong market position has also been confirmed by its net profit of PLN 2.2bn and 73% y/y growth in revenue, to PLN 29.4bn. The main contributors to the Group’s impressive performance were power generation and petrochemicals. More than half of the ORLEN Group's sales revenues come from foreign markets.

LIFO-based EBITDA delivered by the power generation segment was in excess of PLN 1.2bn, while petrochemical production generated solid LIFO-based earnings of over PLN 1bn, representing a fourfold y/y increase.

W 2021 roku PKN Orlen zamierza przeznaczyć na inwestycje – nie uwzględniające potencjalnych przejęć – 9,5 mld zł, wobec 9 mld wydanych w roku ubiegłym. „W długiej perspektywie, w grze zostaną tylko najsilniejsze koncerny” – uważa prezes Orlenu Daniel Obajtek.
