🔎Yesterday’s post focused on rehab after a total hip replacement. Because the major emphasis after this surgery is on gluteal muscle strengthening, it seemed appropriate to do a post today covering some of the best exercises options.

👉This post from .eddiejo does an awesome job of ranking exercises according to how much they activated gluteus maximus.

📚This analysis (Go to my story to read the full-text study) took 16 studies totaling 231 subjects and evaluated 24 exercises in which glute max activation was measured. Based on the analysis, the exercises were classified according to the level of glute max activation.

🧠From a practical standpoint, I recommend using this data as a guide of some sorts especially if you are exploring different approaches to targeting your glutes. It really does boil down to what works best for you. Besides exercise selection, one of the most important factors to strengthening and developing the glutes is loading (like every other muscle). So, no more unloaded hip extensions and donkey kicks.

✅Because I know people will be curious, the step height used for the step-ups was 18 inches.
