A 7-Year-Old is Still a Baby

Sometimes we rush our children to grow up too quickly. At 7 years old, many expect them to be “big kids,” independent, and responsible. But let’s pause for a moment and remember—7 is still so little.

A 7-year-old still needs bedtime stories, still loves cuddles, and still longs for their mom or dad’s hand when they feel uncertain. They may act grown one minute and cry for comfort the next. And that’s perfectly okay—because childhood isn’t a race.

Let them hold their favorite stuffed toy without shame. Let them climb into your lap even if their legs are long. Let them be silly, messy, and dependent—because in your eyes and theirs, they are still your baby.

The world will push them to grow fast, but home should always be the place where they are allowed to be little for as long as they need. 💕

One day, they won’t ask for bedtime hugs. One day, they’ll stop climbing into your lap. And you’ll look back wishing for just one more moment of their 7-year-old heart.

So today, hold them tighter, laugh louder, and remember:
Even at 7, they’re still your baby.

AAP leaders are calling on the HHS Secretary to reschedule the ACIP vaccine committee meeting after the meeting, set to take place next week, was postponed. ACIP is a federal advisory committee that provides vaccine recommendations that the CDC uses to set the adult and child immunization schedules. Before being postponed, ACIP was scheduled to meet on February 26th to discuss a variety of vaccines including influenza and RSV.

AAP President Susan Kressly said, “The work conducted by the independent experts who serve on the [ACIP] committee is critical to ensure access to life-saving immunizations and improve child health.” Learn more about the postponed ACIP meeting from the AAP News article at: https://publications.aap.org/aapnews/news/31416/?autologincheck=redirected
