Information: Here’s the basics on respirator fit tests: 1. They must be performed annually 2. They should be performed more frequently if your physical condition or your respirator use changes 3. Fit test participants should not smoke 15 minutes prior to being tested 4. Fit test participants must be clean shaven around the respirator seal We Offer: • Qualitative Testing • On-site, or walk-in (with appointment) Respirator Fit Testing Services • On-site Medical Evaluations • Sign-in sheets and certificate provided to client as documentation of training Qualitative Fit Testing Qualitative fit testing uses a challenge agent such as banana oil, saccharin, or Bitrex. The test is subjective and relies on the worker’s sense of taste or smell. This 20-minute Qualitative Respiratory Mask Fit test ensures a tight, effective and customized fit for your face, to protect you from airborne contaminants. Mask fit testing is mandatory for many school and workplace admissions, including Health Science and Nursing programs, and is an OSHA requirement for any worker who might need to wear respiratory protection at work. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Requirements According to the Department of Labor, you must be fit tested before using a respirator in the workplace, and you must be tested at least every twelve (12) months. You must be tested with the specific respirator you will be using. OSHA has set requirements for using a respirator on the job, it’s to keep you safe and healthy. Basically, whenever an employer requires an employee, or an employee voluntarily chooses, to wear a respirator, OSHA requires a Respiratory Protection Plan. This requirement can be found under OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). Medical Clearance Before an employee is fit-tested or required to use a respirator in the workplace, you must provide a medical evaluation to determine if the employee is able to use the respirator. Convenient for you with an on-site respiratory Medical Evaluations clearance. First, we’ll ask you some questions about health and safety and your occupation. Then, a doctor will review this information and complete your Medical Evaluations. Before coming in for a mask fit test, please ensure you: • Do not eat or drink (except for water) at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment. This includes chewing gum • Do not smoke within 15 minutes of your appointment • Remove any facial hair that comes between the seal of the mask and your skin. Please bring the mask on which you need to be tested Upon successful completion, you receive a certificate of completion valid for one year.
