When you first wake up, your brain is in a highly suggestible state, transitioning from deep sleep (delta waves) through a relaxed, meditative state (theta waves) into alertness (alpha waves). This is a period of great neuroplasticity, meaning your mind is primed to absorb and reinforce patterns, habits, and beliefs.
If you start your day by consciously setting your intentions, you take control of your mental landscape before external influences (emails, social media, news, stressors) start shaping your thoughts for you. This moment is a blank canvas—you can choose to fill it with positivity, gratitude, purpose, or creativity, rather than letting the world dictate your mood and mindset.
Instead of waking up and immediately reaching for your phone:
• Take a few deep breaths and visualize how you want to feel today.
• Journal a few affirmations or goals.
• Engage in mindful movement or Neurographica to reinforce a positive state.
• Simply sit in stillness and set an intention, like “Today, I will approach challenges with curiosity instead of stress.”
By doing this, you’re training your brain to be proactive rather than reactive, setting a tone of agency and mindfulness that carries into the rest of your day.
