A meaningful upgrade for safety and service at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System.

Our VA Police Service is now equipped with new electric three-wheel scooters—enhancing mobility, visibility, and response across our campus to better serve Veterans, staff, and visitors.

This important investment reflects the commitment of leaders who listen and act, including Acting Deputy Director Jaime E. Marrero, P.E., and Chief of Police Eric E. Lopez Diaz, whose support helps ensure our officers have the tools they need to deliver safe, responsive, and Veteran-centered service.

We are grateful to our dedicated VA Police Force and to the leadership that continues to strengthen safety, readiness, and the overall experience for the Veterans we proudly serve.

Veteran Service Fair in Utuado – A Meaningful Impact for Our Community

We are proud to share the success of our recent Veteran Service Fair in Utuado, where Veterans and their families connected directly with essential VA benefits and resources they have earned through their service. Services included access to health care programs, claims assistance, burial and memorial benefits information, and confidential counseling support.

In addition, our Education Service provided CPR training to local nurses and VA staff, strengthening emergency readiness and reinforcing our shared commitment to quality, Veteran-centered care across the region.

Thank you to everyone who participated and partnered with us to make this outreach effort impactful. To our Veterans and their families: your service matters, your well-being matters, and we remain committed to supporting you today and into the future.

With 20 new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care clinics opened since January, we’re expanding access to ensure Veterans get the health care choices they’ve earned. And when eligible Vets can’t come to us, we’ll pay for them to see a non-VA provider.

The holiday season means an increase in online shopping and purchases. Cyber Monday and year end gift giving often bring about opportunities for scammers to use distractions to target Veterans and their loved ones.

Bad actors often create fake retail websites, pop-up online stores, or pose as sellers offering discounted merchandise. Victims may make purchases and will either receive counterfeit and low-quality items, or the products will never arrive. Scammers may also steal credit card information that was entered for the purchase.

Learn how to avoid shopping scams: https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2025/11/how-avoid-online-shopping-scam-holiday-season?utm_source=govdelivery

Veterans who suspect they have experienced fraud can find out more and report to the appropriate agency at VSAFE.gov or calling 833-38V-SAFE.

Our New Mission, Vision, High Reliability Organizational Pillars and Goals | 2019 – 2024

The VA Caribbean Healthcare System’s Strategic Plan is a transformational process and roadmap to guide our efforts towards becoming a High-Reliability Organization (HRO) and incorporating HRO tenants into our culture and service delivery: Leadership Commitment, Safety Culture and Continuous Process Improvement. Our strategic plan will guide us in creating lasting change in how we ultimately serve our Veterans, their families, caregivers, survivors, and our communities. Our driving forces are the Four Statutory Missions of the VA: Healthcare, Education, Research, and Emergency Management.

In addition, we will embrace and incorporate VA Secretary Wilke’s four priorities into our strategic planning process: Customer Service, MISSION Act, the New Electronic Health Record (EHR), and VA Business Systems Transformation. An integral component to our success, past-present-future will be our employee’s engagement. To quote VA Secretary Wilke, “Transformation will be evidenced by an empowered VA workforce ably serving Veterans in the field with world-class customer service and improved Veteran outcomes.” In the coming days, we will also be highlighting the great work of our employees, how leadership is responding to the 2019 All Employee Survey (AES), and how we as a health system translate feedback of our employees into actions and results.

I am looking forward to the future of our VA Caribbean Healthcare System, with the ultimate goals to be the healthcare destination of choice for our Veterans, provide world class customer service and to be the “Best Place to Work” for our employees.

Sincerely,
