Summer Hair Care.

Just as the sun damages your skin, it can damage your hair, too. Saltwater and chlorine also take a toll on our tresses. The not-so-pretty outcome: A few weeks into summer, hair that was shiny and easily managed looks and feels fried.

Fried hair isn't just a figure of speech. Jessica J. Krant, MD, MPH, a New York dermatologist, says the ultraviolet rays of the sun actually "cook the hair shaft." The damage is most obvious when we see color-treated hair becoming faded, bleached, and brassy.

Even hair that isn't colored will suffer from sun-induced stress. Those UV rays dry out hair and rough up the normally smooth cuticle, or outer layer, of the hair shaft.

Frizz Factor
The dryer hair is, the more likely it is to suffer from a summer malady that's even more irksome than mosquito bites: frizz.

That's because parched hair soaks up the extra humidity in the air, causing the shaft to swell and leading to breaks in the cuticle. Hair puffs up and goes every which way but smooth.

Swimming Damage
Swimming beats up your hair, too. Take a plunge in a pool and while you're doing the breaststroke, chlorine is stripping your hair of its natural protective oils. If you're a blonde, you may find your locks taking on an unflattering greenish cast. That's caused by the copper molecules and other pool chemicals that bind to the protein in the hair shaft.

A dip in the ocean stresses hair in another way. The heavy salt content in seawater draws water out of your hair and skin, Krant says. We end up with prune-y fingers and parched hair.

Tips for Healthy and Gorgeous Summer Hair
Summer doesn't have to be the season of bad hair days. With some extra TLC, your hair can look great on the steamiest days. Here are some hot-weather tress-taming tips from Krant and Julia Papworth, a celebrity hairstylist who has worked with stars including Cameron Diaz, Elijah Wood, and Sarah Silverman.

1.Start summer with a trim. You'll get rid of split ends and refresh your style. You might need a mid-season cut, too. Hair really does grow faster in the summer. That's because there are more hairs in the anagen, or growing, stage during late spring and summer than in the dead of winter, Krant says.

2.Shield your strands from the sun. Make a daily habit of applying a hair care product that contains UV filters (these can be in spray, gel, or cream formulas). These products protect hair from sun damage and help keep color-processed hair from fading. If you'll be spending lots of time outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat. Not only will it keep your strands from getting scorched, it will also protect your scalp and ears, areas that are vulnerable to skin cancer.

3.Saturate strands before taking a dip. If your hair is drenched with clean water or leave-in conditioner, it won't absorb as much saltwater or pool chemicals, Papworth says. It's also a good idea to try to rinse your hair after a swim. If there isn't a shower nearby, keep a spray bottle filled with fresh water.

4.Switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You may be washing your hair more frequently to deal with summer's sweat and grime. Papworth also suggests using a clarifying, or anti-residue, shampoo once a week to clear away product buildup and chemicals. Just be sure to follow with a deep-conditioning treatment.

5.Skip the hot tools. At least once or twice a week, give your hair a break from blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. Papworth recommends washing your hair at night and piling it up in a bun, a braid, or ponytail before you head to bed. "When you wake up, you'll have a nice beachy wave," she says. It's the perfect look for weekends, or make it work-ready with accessories like a thin headband or pretty barrettes.

6.Outwit frizz. Hair that's healthy and well-maintained is your best defense against frizz. Along with regular trims and conditioning, a drop or two of an anti-frizz oil or serum can help smooth hair and add shine. (Papworth likes products that contain argan oil.) Use only "a teeny tiny drop" of oil, Papworth advises, or you can end up weighing down your hair, especially if it's fine or limp.
But let's face it: When the air is so thick with humidity it feels like molasses, frizz is going to happen. Don't waste your summer trying to fight frizz. Instead, find an easy go-to hairdo like a slick pony, high bun, or side braid for those high-humidity days.

The Ultimate Summer Skin Care Routine.

Summer is a time for beach days, pool parties, and vacations. It’s also a great time for a skin care makeover.

Longer hours of daylight and hot, dry, or humid weather can affect our skin differently than the colder and darker days of winter.

Some summer skin care steps may depend on where you live.

For example, a person living in Colorado, where temperatures generally moderate with humidity over 50 percent, may need to make fewer adjustments than someone living in Houston.

Other steps, such as applying sunscreen and refraining from over-showering, are important for everyone.

The beauty tips below will help you enjoy the sunshine with skin health in mind.

Apply sunscreen often
If you do nothing else for your skin this summer, wear sunscreen.

Keep moisturizing
Generally speaking, the air isn’t as dry in the summer as it is in the winter. Still, Goldman doesn’t suggest ditching moisturizer — your skin can still dry out in the summer.
That said, a heavy moisturizer can feel like it’s weighing your face down when it’s hot out. Goldman suggests finding a lighter one.Start by sampling some, if you can, in the beauty aisle of the drug store.

Go lighter on the makeup
On warmer days, wearing a ton of makeup can feel like an unnecessary extra layer. And, if you sweat, your makeup will come off more easily.

Use makeup with SPF
Caking on sunscreen over your impeccably-applied makeup might not sound very appealing. But, if you’re attending an all-outdoor afternoon wedding or having a long al-fresco lunch, you’re still going to need protection.

Self-tan for a healthy glow
People who are more prone to tanning than burning might want to skip the sunscreen — but, even if a tan isn’t painful, it’s still technically sun damage.

Exfoliate once or twice a week
Sunscreen is important, and sweat is the body’s natural way of cooling off. But both can do a number on your pores. That’s where exfoliation comes in.

Wear sun-protective accessories and clothing
Don’t just browse the beauty aisle when revamping your skin care routine for summer. Mullans and Goldman suggest venturing into the clothing section, too.

Summer duds to don include:

wide brimmed hats
UV-400 sunglasses
dark-colored clothes with woven fabrics or UV absorbers
“I always wear a wide-brimmed hat outside during the summer, even when I’m walking my dog,” Mullans says.

Hats can help shield the face and eyes from the sun. Sunglasses help, too.

“I can’t tell you how many colleagues grew up in Florida who are the same age as I am, and they just have these deep-set lines from squinting all the time,” Goldman says.

He suggests looking for a pair of sunnies with UV-400 on the label for optimal protection.

As for clothes, Mullans says tightly woven fabrics, like denim, and loose, dark colors offer the best protection from the sun.

Takeaway
Summer is typically warmer and sunnier than winter. It’s only natural that your skin has different needs.

When you’re spending more time in the sun, it’s important to be mindful about sunscreen. Find a broad-spectrum SPF 30 and reapply every 2 hours to protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancer.

Try a lightweight moisturizer and go lighter on the makeup, exfoliating no more than once per week. If you want a healthy glow, opt for a self-tanner or tinted moisturizer and powder with SPF.

Cover up with clothes and accessories, and consider adding some with UPF 50+ to your wardrobe.

A summer-friendly beauty routine will keep your skin happy and healthy all season long.

Thank you for the great opportunity to meet such a person a professor, musician and sculptor listen and see how wonderful it looks.
Yet, it's the structure and slow tunes of most classical music, specifically, that creates a calming effect on the listener. This is due to the release of dopamine which is the body's natural happy chemical that improves a person's mood, and also blocks the release of stress.

Building a daily skin care routine.

No matter what your skin type is, a daily skin care routine can help you maintain overall skin health and improve specific concerns like acne, scarring, and dark spots. A daily skin care routine has four basic steps you can do once in the morning and once before you sleep.

1. Cleansing: Choose a cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin tight after washing. Clean your face no more than twice a day, or just once, if you have dry skin and don’t wear makeup. Avoid washing for that squeaky-clean feeling because that means your skin’s natural oils are gone. Cleansers known to work well for all skin types include Cetaphil and Banila Clean It Zero Sherbet Cleanser.

2. Serums: A serum with vitamin C or growth factors or peptides would be better in the morning, under sunscreen. At night, retinol or prescription retinoids work best. Makeup Artist’s Choice has an effective vitamin C and E serum and retinol available.

3. Moisturizer: Even oily skin needs moisturizer, but use one that is lightweight, gel-based, and non-comedogenic, or doesn’t block your pores, like CeraVe’s facial lotion. Dry skin may benefit from more cream-based moisturizers like MISSHA Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Cream. Most brands will label their products as gel or cream on their packaging.

4. Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF 15 minutes before heading outdoors, as it takes a while for sunscreen to activate. Darker skin tones actually need more sun protection because hyperpigmentation is harder to correct. Try EltaMD’s sunscreen, which offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Choose products that fit your skin type and sensitivity, and remember to read the labels. Some products, such as retinol or prescription retinoids, should only be applied at night.

For all skin types

1.Stay hydrated.
2.Change pillow cases at least once a week.
3.Wash or wrap up hair before bed.
4.Wear sunscreen every day and apply 15 minutes before going out.
Start with a basic and simple routine to see how your skin reacts. Once you’re comfortable, you can then add extra products such as exfoliants, masks, and spot treatments to boost your skin’s health.

And don’t forget to patch test new products, especially if you suspect you have sensitive skin. This can help you identify potential allergic reactions.

To patch test a new product:

1.Apply a small amount of product on your skin in a discreet area, such as the inside of your wrist or your inner arm.

2.Wait 48 hours to see if there’s a reaction.

3.Check the area at 96 hours after application to see if you have a delayed reaction.

An allergic reaction may include irritation, redness, small bumps, or itchiness. If you notice these symptoms, wash the area you tested with water and a gentle cleanser. Then return the product and try another that better suits your skin type.

Autumn Weather in Algarve
The temperature in October and November, is very warm with an average high temperature of 22ºC in October and 19ºC in November. November night times, however, can be chilly at an average low of 13ºC.

Rainfall does increase but only to around 50mm, which is unlikely to cause more than a brief inconvenience. It usually falls in brief thunderstorms that come in from the Atlantic.

While sunshine levels are good for autumn at six to seven hours a day, they are dramatically reduced from the Algarve's summer sunshine levels, which can average at 12 hours per day.

Is The Sea Warm in Portugal in October?

However, the average sea temperature is starting to decrease, in October temperatures average at 19ºC and in November at 17ºC, compared to a positively warm 21ºC in August.

Humidity Levels in Autumn In The Algarve

Even though the temperatures are starting to decrease at this time of year, the humidity is starting to gradually rise. The Algarve usually sees an average of 80% humidity compared to July which sees an average of a relatively comfortable 60% humidity.

What's The Weather Like in The Algarve in October?

October is one of the best months to visit the Algarve as temperatures still hover around the high 20's and can often reach the mid-30s. There may be the odd shower, but it is nothing compared to what you're likely to experience back in the UK.

One of the benefits of visiting the Algarve in the autumn is that tourist numbers are generally low, meaning the beaches don't get crowded. The warm weather also makes it comfortable to walk around and enjoy sports such as golf, cycling and hiking.
