I did a thing today.
I started a new YouTube channel! One dedicated to yoga nidra meditation, which I’ve been teaching since 2020.
Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep is a guided meditation technique that brings you to the wonderful state of BEING between waking and sleeping. In this healing state the body recovers from fatigue and releases stress, anxiety and tension. This practice has been a life saver for me going through my chronic fatigue experience, but anyone can benefit from this technique. Especially those with busy-busy-busy lives! Give yourself permission to rest and activate the ventral vagal regulation state (the rest & digest state).
The first 20 mjnute video is already up, and more will follow soon. Give me a thumbs up and a subscribe if you’d like to support me supporting you 😊

As we're getting closer to summer, here are a 3 easy Ayurvedic food swaps to stay balanced. Make these swaps if you're Pitta dominant or have a Pitta imbalance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Swap lemon water for lime water 🍋❌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hydration is extra important when the temperatures are soaring. But instead of lemon water, drink lime water. Lemon is heating; lime is a cooling alternative for summer. Simply squeeze the juice of a lime into a jug of water. Keep the jug out of the sun, and out of the fridge (room temperature water is best).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Have fresh mint tea instead of ginger lemon tea 🌱🍵
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On the same note, ginger + lemon are both heating, so avoid it in summer. Drink a fresh mint tea instead. Alternatively, you can drink CCF tea (cumin coriander fennel), but limit the amount of cumin which is heating.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Eat cooling melon instead of mangoes, oranges, papaya or litchis 🍉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ok, I know. This one is hard. Mangoes are one of the joys of summer season! But they are also heating, so eat them in moderation or skip them for as long as you have a Pitta imbalance. The same goes for oranges, papaya and litchis. Have some strawberries, banana or apricots instead!

Are chakras real?

Chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit, and we are most commonly taught they are spinning wheels of vital or life energy at certain locations in the body.

So are chakras real?

There is no experimental or verifiable evidence for them. They are not organ, bone, joint, fat or any other material that our body is made up of. In that sense, if you dissect a body (pardon the imagery here), you will not find them. (Also, no one ever found the Mind or Soul dissecting a body, so does that mean they don't exist? But I digress).

But as science progresses, and especially knowledge about hormones and our central nervous system, direct links between the ancient knowledge about the chakras and our internal network of glands, hormones and major nerve hubs have been found.

You'll come closer to the truth about chakras (and ancient Yogic Teachings) if you visualise the chakras as concentration points on the body during meditation. They are used for practices to control your emotional states, and find the Divine within.

We can create our reality by first imagining something into being.

So by visualising the chakras, they become real. And in a broader sense, manifesting anything into our direct experience can be done through the consistent practice of visualisation.

And that's what we do in Yoga Nidra practice. We visualise and embody a new state, a new reality, while relaxing our nervous system and allowing our hormones to be regulated.
.. And maybe you guessed it already: our next Yoga Nidra series is going to be an 8 week Yoga Nidra Journey through the Chakras.
Each week in a 30 minute Yoga Nidra session we'll explore one of the chakras, starting at the root and ending with the crown chakra. We'll bring awareness to each chakra, visualise it, use affirmations. (please note these are 30 minute guided meditation sessions, not theory about the chakras).

We start this Thursday, 3 February 2022 at 7pm Lisbon time (2pm EST). After the live class, the recording will be uploaded into my new online course platform, so you can access the recording anytime and do the practices as many times as you want.

DM me if you want the sign-up link! ❤️

I'm moving house for the 2nd time in a year. 🏡
It's not what I had planned, but I guess it's one of life's twists and turns...

Moving house is very Vata aggravating (as is travelling, btw). You're moving all.the.time. Boxing up everything, driving to new house, unloading, repeat. You're out of your normal routine. Neither house is your home anymore, or not yet, so you're fundamentally ungrounded.

I notice that I'm much more chaotic (where did I put that friggin' list!), it's hard to focus, I'm procrastinating and have trouble sleeping. I also don't eat regularly, and when I do it's avocado-on-toast-style (or worse, cheese on toast!).

Moving house is ALSO Pitta aggravating for me. I have a Pitta personality, and this is the type of project that Pittas loooove and excel at. There's a lot of planning and organising involved, managing move/work/social life.

But it's easy for me to overdo it. Wanna get it done asap. Keep going despite fatigue. Will rest when I'm in the new house. Focus ONLY on house move.

Mindfully existing during these days and enjoying the process? Nope. Allowing feelings of sadness and grief at the end of this period in my life? Nope. Gotta keep going.

So what to do?
When Vata AND Pitta are increased, we need to up Kapha:
* grounding (meditation, barefoot walks, swimming in the ocean,...)
* making time to meet with friends
* eating nurturing, home cooked meals
* staying in bed longer
* resting (not sleeping) during the day
* no Netflix
* no coffee
* going easy on the kombucha and def no alcohol
* letting go of the expectation that I ALSO have to complete my daily 45 minute bootcamp exercise
* postponing all non-essential work-related stuff to August
* be very, very kind to self.

And yeah, I was definitely NOT planning to move house at the same time as I'm moving online course platforms for my Ayurveda courses…

But hey ho. Life's twists and turns. It’s done now.

And because any reason to celebrate is a good one, I'm celebrating both my moves, with a moving flash sale on all my Ayurveda courses and digital products until the 1 st of August, 4pm Lisbon time (11am EST)!
