Hi everyone and welcome to the page for my private physiotherapy practice in Serrada, Alvaiazere.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy and rehabilitation combines therapeutic interventions with exercise programs that play an important role in restoring and improving functional ability and mobility of the musculoskeletal system, preventing future recurrence. My name is Kerry Herbert and I’m a fully qualified (BSc physiotherapy Hons Wits University ), registered and licensed physiotherapist here in Portugal and clinical Pilates instructor from Johannesburg in South Africa. I have 20 years experience in the field of musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports Physiotherapy. This encompasses:
▪️the treatment of a variety of muscle and joint injuries
▪️spinal conditions
▪️pre and post joint surgery treatment
▪️acute and chronic sporting injuries.

Happy sunny Monday to everyone! With the weather being so variable lately, this is the time when many people start getting sick. Bronchitis, pneumonia etc. Other than antibiotics from the doctor, please remember that physio can help with respiratory infections as well as chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, emphysema or asthma. Sinusitis is also something we can treat. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need.

Another very common injury that, whether partial or complete, always requires physio, is cruciate ligament injuries of the knee. Often partial injuries can avoid surgery and be treated with a brace and physio but a complete rupture nearly always needs surgical intervention. Much research shows the benefits of “prehab” on the outcomes post surgery, so always consult with your physio.

Hip replacements are one of the surgeries physio is involved in rehabilitating. We can assist in pain management and strengthening as much as possible prior to the surgery. Post surgery the focus is on restoring range, function and strength. Prognosis afterwards, with the current surgical techniques, is really good, in conjunction with the dedication of the patient to the rehabilitation.

Good morning on this very wet Monday! Pre and post surgical physio and rehab is the topic this week. Our practice has 20 years experience in orthopaedic treatment and we are able to help treat anything from arthroscopy to fractures or joint replacements.
