Lately I have found myself falling back in love with practice.

Not for the sake of lowering a handicap or chasing a number, but simply for the peace it brings.

A couple of quiet hours outside, just me ( sometimes Billie!) and my clubs, no pressure and no expectations.

Golf has a way of being whatever we need it to be. Sometimes it is adrenaline and competition, and sometimes it is the calmest, most grounding thing in the world.

This journey all started when I set a goal to reach 5.5 by my 55th birthday. I didnt get there but it set me on a really interesting journey. I like to have goals , so my goal for 2026 is to reach 7, maybe even 6, but most of all to keep enjoying the game.

Because we are not paid to do this. We play for fun and it is also incredibly good for our health , walking , moving and being outdoors in nature.

Yoga gives what the body and mind need. Sometimes that’s energy, sometimes it’s calm.

Each class blends movement, breath, and stillness so you leave feeling balanced and refreshed. You allow your body to move as it wants to, not forcing it into poses. We are not trying to become pretzels ! It is about taking the time on the mat to move , stretch, strengthen , breathe and bring awareness inwards.

Yoga is not about being flexible and touching your toes. It’s about taking time out for you , breathing, moving well, building strength, and creating calm in the middle of a busy week.

“I’m not flexible enough for yoga” it’s something I hear often, but the truth is, yoga is what helps create that flexibility (and so much more). It is a little like saying you are “too dirty to have a bath” which I think is a great analogy.

One of the reasons a lot of people start to do yoga is to help with their flexibility and mobility , and then they often find they stay because of all the other benefits of yoga that they didn’t realise there would be.

In class we work on the foundations that make a real difference: posture, mobility, flexibility, strength, breathing and cultivating calm.

You don’t need to be able to fold into fancy poses and become a pretzel ! You just need to start.

My classes bring it all together, with flowing Vinyasa to strengthen and restore mobility, and Yin to release tension and reset the mind. Perfect if summer routines slipped or life has been busy.

I turned 57 this month, and it has made me reflect on what really matters when it comes to health and ageing well.

It is not about extremes or trying to stay young forever. It is about supporting the body so we can keep doing the things we love . Whether that is golf, trying to surf , padel , tennis, walking the dog, or just feeling good in our day to day routines.

The older I get, the more I value the basics:
• consistent strength work
• eating well
• proper rest and recovery
• and sleep that actually leaves me feeling rested

It is not always perfect, and I do not believe it has to be. But being intentional and tuning in makes a big difference.
