‘She played hard to get. But we are in love now as much as we ever were.' 💕
This Valentine's Day, we're celebrating how strong the bonds of love can be. Mavis, 81, and Neville, 82 - (featured on the right) - have been married since he was 21 and she was 20.
Neville continues, 'When we wake up in the morning I give her a kiss like I did 60 years ago, and she tells me how much she loves me and kisses me good morning too.’
Mavis came to the UK from Jamaica at the age of 15. A few years later, she met Neville, also from Jamaica, at a friend's party. Mavis kept him at arms’ length, though he remembers taking her to the cinema and wooing her with chocolates. After marrying, the couple settled in Tottenham, north London.
In 2016, Mavis was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. There have been challenges but with support from both Neville and her daughter, Maz, Mavis is keeping as happy as possible. And Neville says, 'Together, we've seen our love grow deeper every day.'
Stanley, 87, and Brenda, 84, (featured on the left) were married in Wi******er in 1960. Stanley was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2020, shortly after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Stanley comments, 'She was the prettiest girl in Andover.' He still loves to reminisce about their meeting at a dance in Wi******er in the 1950s.
Brenda says, 'The secret to our long marriage is that we are life partners, we look after each other. And, despite everything we've been through these past two years, we continue to find joy in our three daughters, six grandsons, and two great granddaughters.'
