MIA Portugal (Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing) MIA-Portugal will improve the health and wellbeing of an ageing population.

MIA Portugal aims to attract outstanding researchers and their teams to produce excellent science on the molecular and biological basis of ageing. MIA-Portugal is the first research institute in Southern Europe focused on the molecular and biological basis of ageing. The excellent science in ageing or age-related disorders will supply health innovation and knowledge transfer, creating business opportunities for the region. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 857524. (Português)

MIA Portugal (Instituto Multidisciplinar do Envelhecimento) é o 1º instituto de investigação no Sul da Europa dedicado aos mecanismos biológicos e moleculares do envelhecimento. MIA Portugal tem por objetivo atrair os melhores cientistas e equipas de investigação para produzir Ciência na área do envelhecimento e patologias associadas. Desta forma, o instituto pretende potenciar a inovação na Saúde e a transferência de conhecimento, criando oportunidades de negócio para a região. MIA Portugal visa melhorar a saúde o bem-estar de uma população em envelhecimento. Este projeto tem financiamento do programa Horizonte 2020 – Investigação e Inovação da União Europeia, através do contrato de subvenção nº 857524.

Hoje celebramos com orgulho a nossa investigadora Neuza Domingues, distinguida com o Prémio Maria de Sousa 2025!

O seu projeto — “Nuclear lysosomes: deciphering the communication between lysosomes and the nucleus” — vai investigar como a comunicação entre lisossomas e o núcleo influencia o envelhecimento e as doenças associadas.

O Prémio Maria de Sousa, criado pela Ordem dos Médicos e pela Fundação BIAL, reconhece jovens investigadores excecionais com menos de 35 anos na área das Ciências da Saúde, dando continuidade ao legado inspirador de Maria de Sousa no apoio a novos talentos científicos.
