Once again a wonderful organization of the Narakas Club meeting, this time in Torino, Italy (24-26 October, 2024), presided over by Bruno Batiston. It was a pleasure to accept to be Chairman of his conference as President of the congress. The Narakas Club is the most important and known congress in the world on Brachial Plexus (adult and children). Microsurgery in Brachial Plexus, in the field of peripheral nerve reconstruction, is a very sophisticated surgery, being performed only by few experts worldwide. It was started in the 80-90's by Algimantas Narakas, with whom I had the honour to learn from and perform anatomical research for at the René Descartes University in Paris, at the beginning of my Hand Surgery/Microsurgery international fellowship in France, Switzerland and USA.
Research in Brachial Plexus (anatomical and experimental) evolved mainly in the 90's and 2000 (decades of neurotizations = nerve transfers), being nowadays still developed new techniques: distal limb nerve transfers/muscle, tendon transfers (upper and lower limb). I was a founder member of the Narakas Club in Barcelona, 1999, together with Santos Palazzi, Piero Raimondi, Chantal Bonnard, Alain Gilbert, Pepe Borrero, Michel Merle. The past presidents form the Narakas' Council, electing the futur President, thus selecting the next city for its organization. This Council, to which I belong, elected Jean Goubier as president of the next congress, which will therefore be in Paris in 2026. This renoun meeting has taken place in Lisbon, 2011, as I has been elected its president in the previous meeting (2009 in Luxembourg, President: Michel Merle).
Mais uma vez uma excelente organização do congresso do Clube Narakas, desta vez em Turim, Itália (24-26 de Outubro de 2024), presidido por Bruno Batiston. Foi um prazer aceitar ser presidente da conferência do Presidente do congresso. O Narakas Club é o congresso mais importante e conhecido do mundo sobre o Plexo Braquial (adulto e infantil). A microcirurgia do Plexo Braquial, na área da reconstrução dos nervos periféricos, é uma cirurgia muito sofisticada, sendo apenas realizada por alguns especialistas em todo o mundo. Este tipo de cirurgia foi iniciado nos anos 80-90 por Algimantas Narakas, com quem tive a honra de aprender e realizar investigação anatómica na Universidade René Descartes em Paris, no início da minha residência internacional de Cirurgia da Mão/Microcirurgia em França, Suíça e EUA.
A investigação na área do Plexo Braquial (anatómica e experimental) evoluiu principalmente nas décadas de 90 e 2000 (décadas das neurotizações = transferências nervosas), sendo ainda hoje desenvolvidas novas técnicas: transferências nervosas/musculares distais dos membros, transferências tendinosas (membro superior e membro inferior). Fui membro fundador do Narakas Club em Barcelona, 1999, juntamente com Santos Palazzi, Piero Raimondi, Chantal Bonnard, Alain Gilbert, Pepe Borrero, Michel Merle. Os ex-presidentes formam o Conselho do Narakas Club, elegendo o futuro Presidente e selecionando, assim, a próxima cidade para a sua organização. Este Council, ao qual pertenço, elegeu Jean Goubier para presidente do próximo congresso que, assim, será em Paris em 2026. Esta reunião de renome teve lugar em Lisboa, 2011, pois fui eleito seu presidente na reunião anterior (2009 no Luxemburgo, Presidente: Michel Merle).
