🚀 5 Months of ISLOPOL – From Concept to Operational AI in Madeira’s Waste Sorting Line
Five months ago, we set out an ambitious goal: transform how Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) waste is identified and recovered in Madeira.
Today, we’re proud to share a major milestone in the ISLOPOL – Island Loop for Polystyrene Circularity project:
✅ Development and full deployment of our AI-powered computer vision system at ARM’s waste sorting facility
✅ Real-time EPS detection and classification directly on the sorting line
✅ Beginning of operational validation in a live industrial environment
This is more than a technical achievement. It is a concrete step toward retaining EPS locally, reducing plastic incineration, and accelerating Madeira’s transition to a true closed-loop circular economy.
👏 A sincere thank you to our partners:
• ARM – Águas e Resíduos da Madeira
• Esferolight
• ARDITI
• And the CIRCULOOS ecosystem supporting this transformation
Madeira is proving that islands can lead Europe’s circular transition with AI, edge computing, and real industrial deployment.
