To all your incredible mothers and fathers out there… I want you to know there is NOTHING wrong with you for finding postpartum intense and sometimes, too much.

The system just isn’t built around the level of care families actually need, which is sad. But the more we talk about postpartum care, the more chance we have to make it mainstream. BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT WE ALL DESERVE.

Which one spoke to you the most??

A little peek inside my hypnobirthing toolkit 🧺

Yes there are yummy snacks included, and yes there is also a ping pong ball….. curious?? šŸ‘€

Every item has a purpose - to teach, to ground, to soothe, or to remind my clients of what their body already knows.
It’s nothing too fancy, but nothing too random either. Just tools that support calm, confidence, and trust as they head into labour.

Which one would you like to know more about?

I fancied sharing a few truths I stand by in my work with clients… because they’re at the core of how I support you in postpartum 🌿

If you live in Western Algarve & this sounds like the type of support you need in your postpartum in 2026, I’d love to hear from you šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Today marks the first of 🌺The Hypno-Minute 🌺, a little mini-series where I plan to share some useful pocket-proof tools that you can use during your pregnancy and labour to help you prepare for a more calm and confident birth.

And we’re starting with BRAINS! 🧠
A very simple, easy to remember, decision-making tool I teach every one of my clients (and friends!)

Pregnancy and labour can bring choices you weren’t expecting, and instead of spiralling or saying ā€œyesā€ out of pressure (the very effect those in uniform has on us!), BRAINS gives you a calm, informed way to explore what’s right for you.

It’s one of the simplest ways to stay grounded, supported, and in control of your birth experience, and in fact in many life events too.

B = Benefits - what are the positives of this option?
R = Risks - what are the short-term and long-term risks?
A = Alternatives - is there another way? There usually is.
I = Intuition - what does your gut say? Your intuition is real and you should listen to it.
N = Nothing - what happens if we wait? Most things aren’t emergencies.
S = Space - can we have a moment to breathe and think?
BONUS one for ā€œSā€ > Smile! Don’t forget to try and stay positive in these situations - we want to keep the happy hormones flowing!

šŸ’¾ Save this post, send it to your birth partner and don’t forget to fish it out in the times you need it.

and I actually love being the one to tell you this 😌

Because I am here to tell you (and hopefully reassure you) that it’s a lot more common than you may think.

Research shows that not everyone feels that instant rush of love after birth, infact up to 40% of parents don’t feel an immediate bond in those first hours or days or weeks - and factors like exhaustion, birth experience, hormones, and emotional overwhelm can delay the bonding process BUT without affecting your long-term relationship with your little babe šŸ¤—

So I’m here today, as a postpartum doula, to tell you that it’s something that can build overtime through small, everyday moments of care, rest, and support ~ especially when your mental health is being looked after too.

From me to you mama:
šŸ’— You’re not behind.
šŸ’— You’re not failing.
šŸ’— You’re human. And your bond is allowed to grow in its own beautiful time.

And it’s because…

I feel genuinely honoured every time a family chooses me and welcomes me into this sacred chapter of their lives, in pregnancy and/or postpartum ~ the raw, transitional, gritty, love-soaked, emotional becoming that’s unlike anything else we experience in our lifetime.

Being able to witness and support during these quiet, magical moments up close is something I’ll never take for granted. 🧔🧔

And here’s why I encourage you to šŸ™‰

Your body already knows when to push. That natural urge to bear down (Natural Explusive Reflex) kicks in when baby is low enough & your body is truly ready. Think of it as a similar feeling to when you can’t hold in a šŸ’©!

Its a powerful, unstoppable, instinctive reflex you just can’t force or fake, and research shows by listening to this urge it can:

🌺 protect your pelvic floor
🌺 reduce exhaustion
🌺 support oxygen flow for you and baby
🌺 often leads to fewer tears

This isn’t about ignoring your midwife, it’s about understanding birth physiology and then respecting your wishes so you’re not pushing because someone says ā€œit’s timeā€, but because your body told you to.

Words of wisdom ~ Birth works best when you work with your instincts, not against them ✨

✨I don’t avoid the word ā€œpainā€ when we talk about childbirth.✨
We don’t tiptoe around it - we explore it.
Pain isn’t a failure; it’s information, intensity, and your bodies power. We work with it, not against it.

✨I don’t replace your intuition with someone else’s authority.✨
I help you and your partner understand your rights and your options so you can follow what truly feels right for your body and your baby.

✨There is zero judgement when it comes to your parenting choices.✨
There’s no judgement on how you choose to parent.
I’m here to support your decisions, honour your instincts, and help you feel confident in the path that feels right for your family.

✨I do not offer suggestions before listening to your thoughts.✨
Your feelings guide the support and we go from there with suggestions to help you feel empowered and supported.

✨There is no pretending everything is ā€œnormalā€ if something feels off.✨
If something doesn’t sit right with you, we explore it and signpost appropriately.

✨I stay within my scope as your doula.✨
You’ll never hear me pretending to be a midwife or doctor - my role is education, emotional support, and helping you ask the right questions.

Big hugs, C xx

It really does make me sad when women hear the suggestion of a homebirth and instantly think they’re ā€œnot brave enough.ā€
It’s not about bravery.
It’s about evidence - and the evidence shows that homebirth is a safe place to give birth for healthy, low-risk pregnancies with the right support team around you.

And for some women, that supportive, calm environment is their home.
For others, it’s the hospital and that is absolutely perfect too.
Wherever you feel safest is where your body and your baby will be most settled.

So no… homebirth isn’t reserved for the ā€œhippie types.ā€
It’s an option for every mother, every personality, every culture.
Myth → busted. šŸ–•āœØ
