🧈 "melt your shoulders, let the tension fall." I recently had to tell myself.
🥂 I was at a social gathering, and saw someone I felt was intimidating. I caught myself "on alert" - shoulders raised, eyes wide open, self-conscious.
🪷 with that awareness, I consciously relaxed my body - all those yoga nidras paid off - I dropped my eyebrows, took that attenion inwards, kind of like an energetic brushing of my hair to calm my nervous system.
👀 when I was no longer consumed by my self-consciousness, I was able to notice how the other person talked, name-dropped, needed to impress - deep down, she was insecure, too.
💪 we are so constantly tensed that we don't even notice it. even conscious relaxation is a muscle, one we can train to activate when needed - for intimidating situations, when we are too self-conscious to pay attention, when we need to relax or just sleep.
