Live from Geneva: KAICIID at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. 🌍🇺🇳

During our participation in the panel on combating hate speech, Acting Secretary General, Ambassador António de Almeida-Ribeiro, emphasized three vital points for the future of peaceful coexistence:

1️⃣ Representation: 80% of the world's population (6.4 billion people) has a religious identity, making faith leaders indispensable allies in promoting peace.

2️⃣ Digital Challenge: Artificial Intelligence has brought a new dimension to hate speech, requiring closer cooperation between technology and diplomacy.

3️⃣ Practical Tools: We presented our new Hate Speech Resource Guide, focused on providing real solutions to those working on the ground.

KAICIID expresses its deep concern over the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and the growing suffering of civilians and communities across the region. We stand in solidarity with all those who are grieving, injured, displaced, living in fear and uncertainty.

At this critical moment, the protection of human life and dignity must come first. We urge political leaders to choose peace, to act with restraint and responsibility, and to pursue de-escalation through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

We also call on religious leaders and faith communities throughout the region to raise a clear and united voice for peace, reject hatred and any possible misuse of religion to justify violence, and help sustain compassion, solidarity, and hope.

KAICIID stands alongside its Partners and Fellows throughout the region with its full support and warmest thoughts, and remains committed to dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence as the path toward a just and lasting peace.

"Religion is a structural factor in both conflict and peace." 🌍🤝

Yesterday in Lisbon, Ambassador António de Almeida Ribeiro addressed the "Positive Peace" conference, highlighting that over 70% of the world's population has a religious identifies.

The Ambassador shared how KAICIID is turning this global reality into a tool for peace in the Lusophone space. A powerful example is our ongoing work in Mozambique, where we support local religious leaders and youth in Cabo Delgado to rebuild community trust.
