Your mission:
🔍 Detect and assess new psychoactive substances before they become a crisis
⚠️ Provide early warnings and risk assessments to protect public health
🤝 Work with EU partners to keep Europe prepared and resilient

What you’ll need:
✔️ A degree in chemistry, pharmacology, public health or similar
✔️ At least 3 years’ experience in drug monitoring, risk assessment or related fields
✔️ Strong analytical and data management skills
✔️ Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and quickly

🤝 EUDA and Egypt: building shared preparedness on drugs

Our Executive Director, Alexis Goosdeel, has just wrapped up the EUDA’s first official visit to Egypt. Why? To work together on smarter ways to address drug-related challenges — from prevention and treatment to tackling synthetic substances — with a focus on shared preparedness.

This visit opens the door to new joint actions, exchanges of experts and stronger cooperation under the EU4Monitoring Drugs II project. It’s all part of our vision for global partnerships set out in the International Cooperation Framework.

What an inspiring two days in Lisbon! 🌍

💻 We hosted the HCIN Digital Communication sub-group meeting with the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, bringing together communication experts from EU agencies and bodies to share ideas, trends and good practices.

From best practices on social media and AI-driven strategies to innovative approaches to digital publishing and audiovisual storytelling, the discussions showed how collaboration makes us stronger in the digital space.

Mental health problems are common among people with substance use disorders — and when both occur together, treatment becomes harder and outcomes worse.

Major depression, anxiety and personality disorders are frequent comorbidities, making integrated care essential. Yet, in many countries, mental health and drug treatment systems remain separate. That’s why we work with EU Member States to address both drug-related and mental health needs.

We’re in !

This week we teamed up with our colleagues at the Slovenian national focal point to host a study visit for EU enlargement partners. The focus? Early-warning systems (EWS) for new psychoactive substances (NPS) — a key tool for protecting public health.

Over three days, we shared best practices, explored Slovenia’s successful EWS model, and connected with experts from across the region. A strong EWS is essential for countries preparing for EU membership, and we’re proud to support this through our international cooperation projects.

💡 What strategic responses are essential for a resilient EU policy on synthetic drugs by 2050?

Our Foresight team hosted a strategising workshop in Lisbon as part of the ‘Synthetic drugs 2050: increasing EU resilience’ project. The initiative explores how synthetic drug use and availability in Europe might evolve by mid-century and how policy can adapt in response.

Building on the four foresight scenarios developed earlier in the project, a diverse group of experts worked collaboratively to:

🔵 Identify key opportunities and risks for EU public health and security
🔵 Formulate responses across policy, research, and practice
🔵 Define recommendations at EU, national, and organisational levels

🇪🇺🤝🌎 Our COPOLAD III journey may have ended, but its impact continues to shape cooperation between the European Union and Latin America and Caribbean countries in the field of drugs.

From launching Jamaica’s first Early Warning System to adapting the European Prevention Curriculum for the region, the project strengthened institutions, built capacity and fostered dialogue across borders.
