A female patient attended our appointment with concerns in the upper anterior region, reporting chromatic and textural changes of her composite resin restorations.
A fully digital, prosthetically guided reverse planning approach was implemented. Through digital wax-up, complementary diagnostic exams, and mock-up testing, we were able to deliver a highly predictable treatment that exceeded the patient’s expectations.
The treatment plan involved guided crown lengthening followed by the placement of six milled leucite veneers.
This case highlights the applicability of digital tools and the advantages of a completely digital workflow, from diagnosis to the finalization with veneers.

We had the pleasure of hosting Module 6 of the EAO Diploma in Implant Dentistry from 26 to 28 June at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Lisbon.

Our postgraduate program had the honor of participating in this event through a lecture by Professor Duarte Marques, entitled “Patient Selection and Treatment Planning: From Analogue to Digital.”
The lecture was followed by a hands-on session led by our alumni and current students, where international participants had the opportunity to explore a wide range of cutting-edge digital technologies, including intraoral scanners, extraoral facial scanners, photogrammetry, and a jaw motion analyzer.

It was a privilege to contribute to such an enriching and international learning experience!

This 65-year-old male patient came to us with both functional and aesthetic concerns, looking for a fixed alternative to his removable prosthesis.
He presented with loss of vertical dimension, missing teeth, edentulous spaces, and significant wear across the dentition.
We followed a comprehensive treatment plan involving implant placement, soft tissue grafting, and a functional mock-up to guide the restoration. The provisional phase allowed us to reestablish vertical dimension and stabilize the occlusion. In the lower arch, we used the pressed composite technique for direct restorations, while the upper arch was rehabilitated with monolithic zirconia restorations on natural teeth and implants.

A full-mouth rehabilitation focused on restoring function, comfort, and esthetics—with long-term stability in mind.

It is with great pleasure that we witness one of our former postgraduate students, Joana Cabrita - - thrive on one of our most cherished stages — the 38th edition of the Jornadas da FMDUL, with a presentation dedicated to the theme Occlusion Applied to Oral Rehabilitation.

We also extend our congratulations to all the other outstanding lecturers and to the organising committee for such a remarkable and inspiring event.

A female patient presented with the chief complaint of improving her smile aesthetics. Upon clinical evaluation, we observed extensive composite restorations on the four maxillary anterior teeth, with discrepancies in both color and morphology.

Considering the aesthetic complexity of the case and the patient’s expectations, we opted for the placement of feldspathic ceramic veneers on teeth 12 to 22. This solution was chosen due to its superior optical properties and ability to mimic natural enamel, ensuring a highly predictable and harmonious outcome.

A conservative and elegant approach for a refined smile transformation.

At our postgraduate program, our core value is to adapt each treatment plan to the patient’s specific needs and financial circumstances. In this case, we opted for a complete upper removable denture and a lower overdenture—a treatment plan considered the minimum acceptable approach to enhance the patient’s quality of life.

This patient was referred after periodontal maintenance at the postgraduate periodontology department. She reported fractured anterior restorations, tooth sensitivity, and missing teeth, affecting function and aesthetics.

As she declined orthodontic treatment, we proposed a comprehensive rehabilitation: teeth whitening, ceramic crowns and veneers, new restorations, and implants with crowns in edentulous areas. This multidisciplinary approach restored both arches, allowing her to smile confidently again.

An 11 years old patient presented to our clinic with a horizontal fracture of tooth 1.1., initially managed with a vestibular splint that posed aesthetic and hygiene challenges.

To ensure a functional and esthetic temporary solution, while preserving the patient’s natural growth and development, we opted for a conservative approach. A provisional maryland bridge was fabricated, retained with composite resin on tooth 2.1., providing stability and allowing for future orthodontic treatment when appropriate.

This approach ensures both oral health maintenance and long-term treatment planning, prioritizing the patient’s development and future rehabilitative options.
