Nighttime fear is something many people with epilepsy and caregivers carry silently.
It’s exhausting. It’s overwhelming. And it’s rarely acknowledged.

As we mark Epilepsy Awareness Month, we want to open space for honesty without judgement, pressure, or clichés.
Just real stories from people who experience it daily 💜

Tell us in the comments:
✨ If you could sleep all night without fear, what would that change for you?
✨ What would you finally feel?
✨ What part of your nights would you want back?

Your experience matters and someone reading your comment might finally feel less alone!

❌ Common myth:
“If someone has a seizure, they must go straight to the hospital.”

✅ The truth:
Many seizures are brief, part of a person’s usual pattern and followed by full recovery.

In those situations, rest and support at home are often enough!

However, hospital care may be needed when a seizure lasts more than 5 minutes, seizures repeat without recovery in between, it’s someone’s first-ever seizure or if the person is injured or pregnant.

Knowing the difference doesn’t just reduce unnecessary hospital visits, it helps caregivers feel calmer and more confident in the moment. 💜

Missed your epilepsy medication dose? Here’s a clear guide on how to act.

Taking your anti-seizure medication consistently is one of the most important ways to keep seizures under control. Missing a dose (even occasionally) can increase your risk of a breakthrough seizure or stronger seizure activity.

Here’s what to do:

1. Check how much time has passed since your scheduled dose.

2. Look at the medication box or patient leaflet for what to do if you miss a dose.

3. After missing a dose, monitor for fatigue, mood changes or any unusual symptoms.

4. Do not take two doses at once to “make up”, as this can lead to side effects or reduce safety.

5. Build habits: set phone reminders, use a pill-organiser and refill your meds before you run out.

doesn’t just affect one person, it affects the whole family.

Behind every person living with epilepsy, there’s someone who stays alert through the night: a parent, a partner, a sibling, or a friend who carries quiet worry and unwavering care.

💜 Tag someone who supports a loved one with epilepsy and let them know they’re appreciated.
