Acupuncture is a wonderful support for your fertility treatment both before and after your embryo transfer.

Before treatment, acupuncture focuses on preparing the womb to receive by calming the nervous system, reducing stress, and optimizing hormonal balance. This is a more YIN approach, creating softness, receptivity, and stability in the body.

After treatment, the focus shifts. Acupuncture supports circulation and communication within the uterus, helping the egg find its nest in the uterine lining. This is a more YANG treatment, encouraging movement, warmth, and integration.

If you’re able to receive acupuncture both before and after your fertility treatment, you’re giving yourself a meaningful boost during a process that already asks for so much care, love, time, and energy. It’s a deeply intentional journey, and such a powerful one to be on.

If you’re on the assisted fertility journey with IUI or IVF, here are some great tips to help you on the way.

Acupuncture supports the physical process, with hormone management, uterine lining development, egg health, and (after implantation) helping the uterus “grasp” the egg. That’s another way of saying - a yang boost for the womb.

Energy alignment can help clear your field so communication between you and the baby flows more naturally. It can give them a reason to get more excited about coming to join you, while also helping you feel connected and reducing your worry. Stress management about the last point is very useful, because the happier mama is, the healthier her system is.

And don’t forget to talk to your baby immediately, building that connection. It’s a wonderful way to help the Heart Qi nourish the Uterus, via the meridian that connects that them.

The path to a baby isn’t always easy, but isn’t it a sacred activity, bringing life into the world? I love the kind of love that builds that bridge.

Is it your (yikes!) first time for needles? I’ve treated thousands of people on their first and I know what you’re wondering about!

The biggest question (of course) is: does it hurt?

Not in my style. Think light touch- so light you might not even notice you’re getting needled. That’s the way I like it on myself, and most patients agree. If you want it to feel intense because somebody told you that’s necessary (it’s not) but no problem. There are many ways to needle, it’s adaptable to you.

2nd biggest question - what happens during the treatment? Think about the last time you deeply relaxed, then multiply it by 5. Acupuncture stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (the rest & digest part). Patients often fall asleep as well as lose track of time because the brain leaves beta mode (our day-to-day multitasking mode) and enters deeper states like delta, which is a great place for healing to take place. While you sleep :)

The last person who came in to try it for her first time said “this feels like magic.”

Looping thoughts are…no fun! Especially if they’re giving anxiety or worry. But they are a natural expression of our Earth element which is mediated through the Spleen meridian system. So the question isn’t- how do I eliminate this? It’s actually- how do I integrate this, so I have more room in my headspace?

Here’s a simple technique you can use to bring balance, and dare I say it, even some appreciation for this normal function of your body+mind.
