Awakeland is growing, and we’re looking for people who want to grow with it. 🌿

We have volunteer residency spots open for those who want to trade their time and energy for a genuine immersion in conscious land care, reforestation and slow co-living in one of the most beautiful corners of Portugal.

This is the chance to be genuinely useful to a piece of land that needs care, alongside people who take that seriously.
In return, you’ll have a place to sleep, food on the table, access to yoga and meditation classes, and 20+ hectares of nature as your daily reality.

We’re looking for people who are:

🌿 Grounded and reliable
🌿 Comfortable with physical outdoor work
🌿 Respectful of conscious co-living
🌿 Genuinely interested in permaculture and reforestation
🌿 Ready for cleaning and general maintenance for the space
🌿 Ready to be present — not just passing through

Experience in permaculture, cooking, building or facilitation is a bonus. Showing up with an open heart and a good work ethic is what matters most.

Keep planting some seeds. Someday, you’ll wake up surrounded by the garden you once dreamed of and prayed for. 🌱 We know this to be true, not as a metaphor, but as a lived reality.

In 2016, fire consumed 80% of this land. What took years to plant was gone in days. Most people would have walked away.

We planted more seeds. Today, Awakeland is home to over 22500 trees — medronho, carob, almond, fig, plum, apricot and so many more that have grown wild on their own. Three lakes where there were none. A valley that went from ash to forest. A garden that once existed only as a dream and a determination.

This is what it looks like eight years later. Every retreat, every stay, every person who walks this land helps fund the reforestation project that keeps this garden growing. When you come to Awakeland, you’re not just visiting a place — you’re participating in something that’s been quietly, stubbornly growing for almost a decade.

Keep planting. In your life, in your work, in your relationships, and if you feel called, in this land too.

Airplane mode. ✈️ Not because you’re going anywhere. Because you’re finally arriving.

There’s something that happens when you put the phone down for a few days. The noise fades. The compulsive checking stops. You start noticing things — the light through the trees, the sound of water, the way your shoulders feel when they’re not carrying a screen.

At Awakeland, we call this normal.

Most retreat centres bring you to a beautiful location and fill every hour with a programme.

Awakeland was built differently.

This land at the foothills of the Monchique Mountains, between the mountains and the Atlantic, was specifically chosen because of what it already was.
Ancient. Alive. Held.

The Sufis were here before us. The land carries that memory.

We didn’t arrive and impose a vision. We arrived, listened, and built around what the earth was already offering.

The meditation happens when you walk through the forest. The healing happens when you sit by the lake. The transformation happens when you finally stop long enough to feel where you are.

Nature is not the backdrop here. Nature is the teacher.
We just tend the land, plant the trees, and open the doors.
