My life’s a path through the wilderness,
Each step, uniquely mine to trace…
A ride through rocky hills, uneven ground,
To learn the art of balance, to embrace.

I once wished for a red carpet road,
Smooth and simple, without a fall.
But now I see the bumps and bends,
Were lessons dressed in disguise, after all.

In this human skin, my soul takes flight,
To taste the truth of being real.
To learn the rules, to feel the game,
To know how life’s magic truly feels.

Divine intelligence flows through me,

We met by chance, in a random place,
In '91, when my heart searched for a trace.
Though our spark didn’t come right away,
A quiet bond grew, by time.

Letters flew while we stayed apart,
Far away, but close to destiny.
We missed some moments, life got in the way,
But your call kept bringing me back to stay.

In '94, I traveled to see you,
That’s when our love began to bloom,
Years of letters, calls, and adapting,
Led us to '96, with vows creating.

In '99, our girl arrived,
A new joy that made us feel so alive.
Nine moves, three continents, and countless days,
Our story grew in bewitching ways.

You and I are, so different, yet true,
Culturally apart, but we made it through.
With different thoughts, different views,

My Journey of Awakening
For a long time, I was trapped in a cycle of worry and anxiety. My thoughts were always on the future and the past, making me feel not good enough, not smart enough, and not doing enough. I tried to be perfect in everything, but I was afraid to ask for help. I wanted hugs, acknowledgment, and praise from others.

I was always busy, doing many things, and taking on other people's problems. I felt guilty when I couldn't help and felt ashamed when I made mistakes. I judged others and myself harshly, always looking for answers. But even when I found answers, I was not satisfied because I couldn't believe in simplicity.

My body was very tired from my restless mind and many desires. I felt disappointed, abandoned, and used by others. I hated myself when I felt humiliated and small. I felt like an underdog, trying to please people who only saw me as a convenient companion.

One day, life hit me very hard, and I felt I could not continue. At that moment, I realized I was living in an illusion created by my mind. I lost myself in always putting others' needs before my own. I understood that my suffering came from living unconsciously.

This realization was the start of my journey of awakening. I saw that my life, full of searching for approval and perfection, was driven by an illusion. I began to see the need for setting boundaries and letting go of guilt and shame.

I started to break these illusions, little by little. I learned to listen to my body's need for rest and my heart's need for self-compassion. I began to appreciate simplicity and the present moment. I no longer needed to prove myself to others. Instead, I focused on understanding and fulfilling my own needs, living authentically and consciously.

My favorite moment of self-reflection is when I ask myself, "How am I without the history of the past and without projecting the future?" I found the answer within me: Nothing—no one. Being nothing or no one made my burdens fade away. Here, I learned that the past is there to experience and is part of the learning process in this human form of life. The future is an illusion, beyond the divine secret and the mystery of human life. Here, I learned to live my life in the now, moment by moment, with gratitude in my fullest being.

This journey of awakening was not quick but a slow process. With each step, I moved closer to a life of clarity and peace, letting go of past burdens and future worries. I learned that true happiness comes not from others' approval but from accepting myself completely.

In this new awareness, I found freedom. I accepted my imperfections, asked for help without feeling shame, and set boundaries to protect myself. My mind, once always busy, found peace in stillness. My body, once very tired, began to heal.

This journey is ongoing, a continuous path of awakening and self-discovery. But every day, I am more aware of my true self, more present in each moment, and more compassionate towards myself and others. I am no longer an underdog in my own life but a conscious creator of my destiny, living with intention, clarity, and peace.

Recognize the Role of Your Body
Notice Your Body's Reactions

Your body's state significantly influences how you perceive and react to the world around you. Think of your reactions as steps on a ladder. When you're calm and well-regulated, you're at the top rung, using the most advanced parts of your nervous system to stay calm and engage.

The Ladder of Responses (Polyvagal Theory)

Top Rung (Ventral State)
Characteristics:
Your body utilizes the myelinated vagus nerve, the newest part of the nervous system, to remain calm and connected.
Your facial expressions reflect your true feelings.
Your voice sounds friendly and warm.
You can easily interpret supportive and loving cues from others.
You feel safe, capable of growth, and open to healing.

Middle Rung (Sympathetic State)
Fight or Flight:
When stress mounts, your body may activate an older system, preparing you to fight or flee.
You might notice your muscles tensing and your heart racing.

Bottom Rung (Dorsal Vagal State)
Shutdown:

Practical Strategies for Self-Regulation

Stay Aware and Acknowledge
Pay attention to your body's signals when you're starting to get triggered. Note changes in your face, breathing, and heart rate.

Use Calming Techniques
Speak to yourself in a gentle, calming voice.
Ground yourself with questions like, “Did my face just change? Am I breathing differently? Is my heart rate up?”

In the words of Bob Marley, "You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice." Trauma can shatter our sense of self and leave us feeling broken and lost. Yet, within the depths of our pain lies an incredible strength waiting to be discovered. Healing from trauma is not a swift journey but a lifelong odyssey, one that demands patience, support, and above all, self-compassion. Let us embark on this journey together, guided by wisdom and faith.

Chapter 1: Embracing the Fragility of Life
Job 14:2-4 paints a poignant picture of the ephemeral nature of existence. Like a flower that blooms briefly before withering away, our lives are fleeting and fragile. Trauma can abruptly disrupt our sense of stability, leaving us questioning the purpose and meaning of our existence. Yet, in acknowledging the transient nature of life, we find solace in the shared human experience of impermanence. It is within this acknowledgment that we begin to cultivate resilience, understanding that adversity is not a deviation from the norm but an inherent part of the human condition.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I confront a broad spectrum of challenges in my practice. Each session is dedicated to serving the best interests of my clients, requiring my constant presence, attunement, and healthy self-regulation. Despite my expertise, I grapple with waves of fear and anxiety, battling the nagging sense of inadequacy.

Continual education and training notwithstanding, I maintain a stance of curiosity, embracing a beginner's mindset with each client encounter to foster ongoing learning. Confronting my fears head-on, I delve into their origins, drawing from childhood memories of solitary confinement in an incubator due to prematurity—a journey that leads to my own healing.

During moments of dissociation, I conduct thorough body scans to ground myself. Amidst the whirlwind of daily responsibilities—work, studies, training, chores—the strain on my nervous system becomes palpable. Seeking solace in nature, I find respite by quieting my mind, basking in the sun's warmth, and connecting with my inner self.

Trauma, Healing and Liberation
Trauma, to me, is the overwhelming sensation that surges through my being when something happens that my nervous system struggles to process. It's a feeling of fragmentation within my soul, where energy disperses from various parts of myself, leaving me unable to cope, too fast, too soon, or too much to bear.

Healing from trauma, on the other hand, is finding a path back to wholeness and inner peace. It's reclaiming the capacity to exist fully in the present moment, free from the grip of past experiences that once haunted me. It's about stitching together the fragments of my being, so that the past no longer dominates my emotions, allowing me to connect seamlessly from moment to moment.

Liberation, then, is the spaciousness within myself to navigate the landscape of my past without feeling confined by it. It's the ability to envision a future unshackled by the chains of fear that once bound me, allowing me to step forward with confidence and clarity.

Yes, healing from trauma does indeed take time. The wounds left by trauma run deep, affecting not only my mind and emotions but also my physical well-being. It's a journey that cannot be hurried or rushed, for it requires patience, curiosity and perseverance. Through various therapeutic modalities, from counselling to self-care practices, and with the support of others, I can slowly untangle the knots of trauma that bind me.

The timeline of healing is unique to each individual, shaped by the nature and severity of their experiences, their resilience, and the effectiveness of the interventions they undertake. It's crucial to approach this journey with kindness and understanding, acknowledging that setbacks may occur along the way. Human beings are resilient by nature. Our bodies are amazing at healing themselves, not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We can discover how our physical and non-physical aspects are deeply connected, and how our body’s structure reflects the ways we heal in different dimensions.

Our mind is also amazing at healing itself, not only from physical damage, but also from emotional and mental challenges. Our brain can change itself by making new connections and routes between its cells. This is called neuroplasticity. It allows us to learn new things, remember old things, and overcome difficulties.
