In Portugal, love used to be handmade 💘🇵🇹

In Braga and Viana do Castelo, young women embroidered Lenços dos Namorados – love handkerchiefs filled with hearts and sweet messages. If a suitor accepted it, the love was mutual ❤️

And in Guimarães, the charming Cantarinha dos Namorados (small clay jugs) were gifted as part of courtship and proposals.

🎄 Christmas in Portugal 🇵🇹
In Portugal, Christmas is all about warmth, faith, and gathering around the table with family. The heart of the celebration is Consoada on Christmas Eve – where loved ones come together to share a traditional meal, often featuring salted cod (bacalhau) or octopus, followed by sweet treats.

Homes are filled with beautifully detailed Presépios (nativity scenes), a cherished tradition that brings the Christmas story to life. At midnight, many families attend Missa do Galo (Midnight Mass), welcoming Christmas Day with reflection and joy.

A Portuguese Christmas is not complete without Bolo Rei, a festive crown-shaped cake filled with dried fruits and nuts – symbolizing the gifts of the Three Kings 👑

Perhaps the best part of all is strolling through your village, town, or city and admiring the Christmas lights that decorate the streets and brighten the city centre.

Simple moments, rich traditions, and a whole lot of heart. ❤️
