The Maya Institute; helping humanity heal: one soul at a time. We use evidence based mind-body approaches to preventative health and wellness care.We specialize in working with complex chronic conditions including cancer, cardiac and respiratory disease, and autoimmune disorders. We have spent decades studying, participating and leading scientific efforts to better understand disease and the human condition. We have evaluated physiological, psychological, spiritual/religious, and environmental conditions to understand how these aspects contribute to disease and wellness. We offer educational programs, workshops, healing therapies and retreats based on our understanding of the complexity of the multifocal aspects that contribute to disease.

Blessings of Imbolc, celebrated Feb 1 or 2. We honour the light as it returns; and the renewal and rebirth of spring to come. We are most certainly in a time of drastic change - rebirth of a new way of existing and renewal of our conscious selves. May we all find space in our hearts and souls to recognize we must recreate and rebirth a world with greater hope and happiness for us all. 🙏🏼💙

Remembering Hind today.. two years since her brutal death. The essence of love and innocence; she is one of the many reasons we carry on for justice. 💜

A gentle sanctuary for the soul in troubled times. When the world feels heavy, remember: you are not the storm raging in the valley, but the mountain that witnesses it. You are not the wave crashing on the surface, but the deep ocean that holds it. A soft, three-minute sanctuary, for the quiet within.

We who sit in this sacred circle have been chosen by the Ancestors to be the sacred torchbearers, shining our light to illuminate the darkness and the sharing of our love, peace and enlightenment from our heart to all in the sacred hoop.

We should never waver but keep our torch burning bright until we all unite under the sacred tree of life, all people, all skin colors from different nations with one great vision, one unified struggle, and one prayer to start living the old ways.

We will not be separated by beliefs, language, gender or politics, but we will all be united in heart and spirit, we will see through the false illusions of what keeps us separated and we will realize that we all have the same vision and dreams.

It will be our love for Mother Earth and the Great Spirit that lives within all things that will hold us together in this divine bond and keep our torch burning bright within our hearts.

For it is us who the Ancestors talked about from their vision quests, when they seen seven generations into the future and could see all people sitting together as one in the sacred circle. Ekosi. 🙏💕🙏 Thank you, credit: Joseph White Eagle

Today, I honour the Native Americans of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and Siletz Indians..of Oregon.

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians are the most diverse confederation of Tribes and Bands on a single reservation in the United States. Their ancestors spoke 10 different languages, each of which had multiple dialects.

Their ancestors brought with them deep connections to more than 20 million acres of ancestral territory combined, including all of Western Oregon from the summit of the Cascade mountains to the Pacific and extending into what’s now SW Washington State and northern California.

The Confeserated Tribes of Grand Ronde are Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Plateau. They consist of at least 27 Native American tribes with long historical ties to present-day western Oregon between the western boundary of the Oregon Coast and the eastern boundary of the Cascade Range, and the northern boundary of southwestern Washington and the southern boundary of northern California. They spoke many different languages, but refined a creole language that became known as Chinook Wawa; and language being revived today
****
I was privileged to provide health care services to members of these tribes a few years ago during the CoVid mania; and every day that I went to the reservation was a true honour and blessing. Their sacred land, and the sacred people are kind, beautiful, respectful people; who deserve so much from us. If you read their true history; would learn of their suffering, their land being stolen, their tribes members being killed; and the false promises made and stolen by the American government.

Today is not a day for giving thanks to a false pilgrim story. Today is a day to honour the truth; to mourn, to remember, and to offer our prayers in honour of the true Native Americans🙏🏼

Do you ever feel a homesickness for a place you cannot name? A deep, cosmic loneliness that stays with you, even when you’re with people? You’re not broken, and you’re not alone. This feeling is a sacred signal. You are being called to remember your true home - the home within. If you know this feeling, comment ‘✨’ below. ❤️

Our Story

Maya originally began as a center for integrative therapies and research in 2004, with a primary focus on providing educational programs, workshops, and integrative modalities to promote health and wellness and to treat complex chronic disease, at our retreat center located in Isle La Motte Vermont. As integrative modalities became more accepted and mainstream within health care, we began to shift our focus on a core foundation in health care delivery: the relationship between the provider and the patient; and the employee and the leader. What we experienced, observed, and validated within the scientific literature and patient report; is that this relationship is lacking in compassion, empathy, and respect. We found that many patients and health care employees feel they have been treated with disrespect, indifference, and disregard.

Every individual from birth has an innate desire to feel love, to be valued and respected; and every individual has some degree of co-dependence upon another to survive. When illness and complex chronic disease consume an individual, these primary needs are heightened. In the current systems of health care delivery, the interactions and engagements for moments of great compassion, empathy and respect have suffered. The system has evolved into one of a rapid-pace machine who has lost its soul to a contrived outcome of profit. The true soul of health care, its relationships, and its true purpose of “caring” are being lost. We believe there is no greater charge, than to change the landscape of health care delivery to a more compassionate, respectful approach; one person, one encounter, one moment at a time.
