Braining®, a versatile platform, harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) to address the needs of stroke patients and enhance their recovery journey. In light of the limited resources available to stroke survivors, our focus is on utilizing cutting-edge technology to accelerate the rehabilitation of stroke patients.

By integrating AI, we aim to revolutionize the treatment plans for stroke patients. Our initial trials are centred on stroke survivors, inspired by the significant advancements seen through continuous occupational therapy.

Our deployment of VR technologies within a personalized metaverse offers a unique and engaging approach to providing stroke survivors with a diverse range of stimuli. This approach not only expedites the recovery process but also enhances its overall effectiveness, offering a potent resource in the journey to recover from a stroke.

An applause to Yasin Dalowar (.bln_ ) for his final presentation!

On March 8th at 14:00, at UPTEC - Science and Technology Park of University of Porto, Yasin Dalowar, one of our first Erasmus+ interns, showcased the results of his work with Braining during his stay.

In front of a jury that included his supervisor João Ribeiro and esteemed Braining team members (Nuno Almeida, David Rodrigues, and Joana Santos), Yasin presented his groundbreaking contributions to our mission of advancing healthcare through data-driven solutions in his project - “Optimizing Stroke Recovery: A Predictive Model for Personalized Treatment Planning.”

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲?
👉 Yasin extensively researched stroke-related data and set up a database using the MIMIC-III dataset to filter stroke cases.
👉 He designed and optimized machine learning models to predict patient mortality, significantly improving their accuracy.
👉 His work extended to extracting structured data from clinical notes using Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrating all components into a cohesive pipeline.
👉 He developed a Named Entity Recognition (NER) tool combined with Braining’s specialized OCR pipeline to structure EHR (Electronic Health Records) data, transforming raw clinical text into comprehensible data reports.

Celebrating Rino Di Chiara’s Project Presentation!

On December 16th at 14:00, at , Rino Di Chiara, one of our first Erasmus+ intern, showcased the results of his work with Braining during his stay.

In front of a jury that included his supervisor João Ribeiro and esteemed Braining team members (Nuno Almeida, David Rodrigues and Joana Santos), Rino presented his groundbreaking contributions to our mission of advancing healthcare through data-driven solutions, in his project - “Automated Clinical Text Structuring for Stroke Severity Scoring”.

But what did Rino achieve?
👉 Rino successfully designed and implemented a schema to structure data from clinically validated datasets, using inputs from both our partners and leading repositories like MIT.
👉 He explored text annotation with LLMs, specifically leveraging tools to extract actionable insights from clinical data.

Outstanding Results
Rino’s commitment, technical expertise and problem-solving skills earned him an exceptional grade, a testament to the impact of his work on our projects! Beyond his technical accomplishments, his enthusiasm, curiosity, and teamwork were invaluable throughout his internship.

Braining just snagged the Best Pitch Award at School of Startups 12th Edition Pitch Day - Science and Technology Park of University of Porto 🎤🏆 Apparently, all those hours talking to ourselves in the mirror finally paid off.

Thank you to the jury members and entrepreneurs: Francisca Vieira Matias ( ), João Miguel Dias (Armilar), Rodrigo Dahl ( ), Sergio Rodrigues (COREangels), Orlando Rocha ( ), Filipa Barreto Pontes ( ), António Rocha (.ai ), and João Guimarães (.pt ).

Congratulations to every other project that were part of the 12th edition cohort, and specially to .sonora and Waveng for your awards!

A huge shoutout to the mentors, fellow startups, and everyone who listened to us ramble about AI-VR and stroke rehab — turns out, we make sense indeed! This is just the beginning... Next step: let’s test it out!
