I don't post often here, I know! But let's try, ;-) Feels very strange after a long break!

We have only one place left for a beautiful and abundant Homecoming Journey, immersion in deep connection, inspiration and healing, exploration of the feminine nature within an individual and the collective, deep rest, restoration, and inspiration, visioning and embodying the world in which our sensitivity, uniqueness, or pain, are embraced, and met with compassion and loving curiosity.
Time for silence, movement, dance, nature hikes, ocean swims, yoga, artistic expression, meeting our ancestral mothers and grandmothers, sharing circles informed by varied psychotherapy modalities, somatic practices, and freedom.
The culture of our retreat is rooted in unconditional respect for your needs, in consent, and deep listening. You will be always free to step in or step out. To participate or lie down under a tree.
Already this freedom to belong without sacrificing your authenticity can be healing for some parts of you.

In the comment, I share a link that will take you into a deeper dive and details.

P.S.
Above all, Portuguese Alentejo is the most beautiful and nourishing place to be.

Last year, I spent many inspiring hours with the Academy of Therapy Wisdom. Studying relational neurobiology and memory reconsolidation with Jules Taylor Shore, certifying in Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment method with Janina Fisher, and exploring with her how to accompany humans in their grief process. And...more. It has been a year of wide exploration and growth. And it is a true pleasure to learn in real time with some of the wisest women I know. Belonging to the Academy as a long-time student, I am very honored that my paper has been chosen for this year's Wise Therapy Spotlight publication. If printed, it is a heavy book of personal, exploratory, and practical writings by many wise therapists. You can download it free of charge here: https://pages.therapywisdom.com/wts-dec-2023

"Every year, the Wise Therapy Spotlight is one of the most rewarding projects we do at Academy of Therapy Wisdom.
This year, we asked,
How, as a community, do we repair a sick world when it is anguished with mental suffering?
We are interested in your reflections on therapeutic practices and wise approaches to addressing the mental health crisis locally and globally without ignoring the ecosystem we are all living and breathing. How can the therapeutic community extend its reach to mitigate mental distress for individuals from all walks of life, from the youth to the seniors?"

Enjoy reading and I hope to connect over the themes and spotlights!

The outpouring of responses has been astounding for their depth of consideration.

The final selections below range from the thoughtfully academic (such as Antonella Sansone, PhD) to the poignantly playful (Sandra Wartski, PsyD). Many talk about self-care, nature, and resilience, and the inextricably social nature of mental health.

The pieces are presented in no particular order. Each is worth spending some time with. It is our hope that reading the words of your colleagues around the world brings you closer to them and to yourself.

With sincere appreciation for you,

Taking care of our own trauma activation without shame or guilt can prevent us from compassion fatigue.
It is not selfish to look at a personal story unfolding for you in relationship to other humans suffering.
Our interconnectedness means that everything global is also deeply intimate and personal.
When I understand what in my anger is about me and my story, my actions are true responses to here and now, clear from my personal trauma residue, from hidden agency of wounded parts of me.
Sometimes I need to disconnect to process what I have witnessed.
It is an act of care so I can come back caring with clear intention.

The photos attached to this post come from my garden.
Living on the land that is blessed with olives, oranges and watermelons, creates sensual connection to the stories of displaced Palestinians. I smell and taste their sweetest and most bitter memories. This thread of belonging together to the dry yet fruitful soil, becomes a soulful mark of responsibility and remembrance.
Rooting in solidarity, remembering forever belonging to the land, activates also the deepest fear of impermanence of home, of being abruptly uprooted. And this tender place calls for my love, my attention, my unconditional acknowledgement that even in the darkest of times, tender places within us are worthy pausing for.
And what happens when we don't? When we shame our intimately personal triggers when witnessing big scale trauma? When we say "that's nothing in comparison to xyz, don't make it about you!"? We numb. We grow cold. We feel exhausted and lonely. We detach. We burnout.

May you stay tender.
May you stay engaged.

Love

These days nature calls me strongly to remind me of belonging in an interconnected web of resilient and creative life
Ocean teaches how to breathe and make space
for grief
for polarities
for expectations
for independence
for clarity
for not knowing
Ocean shows how to integrate fragmented world in one field of compassion
How to move with waves
I look at its vastness and feel protected from fragmenting with the world.
Ocean seems to do it so effortlessly: uniting and integrating disorganized pieces of grief, helplessness, darkness, light, rage, sadness, solidarity and loneliness
into a turquoise marvel of hope and power.

On the 1st of November, Polish families go to the cemeteries to light up candles for the loved ones.

Far away from my Polish home, the candle in my window is burning to warm up and contain many types of grief.

Grieving all the wounds not healed on time to see with clarity.
Grieving hearts cut from their natural state of love and compassion.
Grieving stories that will never be told.
Grieving changes that did not happen in time to stop relentless acts of hatred.
Grieving sacred pain of the past generations being abused and mythologized to justify cruelty.
Grieving the fire of human unity that couldn't melt the iron... and safety that didn't arrive on time to stop the spiral of collective trauma from rolling into the future with high speed.
Grieving illusions of human rights being universal and protected.
Grieving for those who can't feel anymore as feeling would be a mere luxury on the run to survive.

If you are still feeling, nourish it, cherish it, let it be processed, digested, held, witnessed. May the frozen grief do not become a lense through which we see the world, the others.

Long retreats can be transformative.
So is one hour of silent nature exploration.

After a busy day I started walking slowly without any plan.
I noticed hundreds of acorns that the mother tree dropped on the road. I collected them to plant directly into the soil in a place where the seeds have a chance to turn into baby corks.
I found meaning in simple responding to here and now.

The smell of fresh mint awakened my senses.

Laying under the grandmother oaks, made me dream and brought an impulse to contact some dear humans, speaking from the place of vision, trust and calm.

Some oregano late bloomers with their burned leaves tasted like summer.

Hello October.
So in love with you.

There is a little hill close to our house that we wanted to climb since we arrived here. Today, we finally did.

It looked tiny, but the climb was extremely steep and we were constantly sliding down the hill, laughing, ending up among spikes and thorns.
What stays with me is the view: hills, vast plateau, ocean, wide horizon. Sitting on top, we felt like sitting on top of the world, alone, secluded, protected, proud. Yet, just 15 minutes from home.

Do you know this saying: Be kind, everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about?
Nature whispered today:
Be kind. Everyone is climbing a hill you know nothing about.

(Unless you walked along them or sat with them on the top.
Trust, when people say they are tired.
Trust their wounds.
Trust when they say they walked a long way.
Trust when they say they are totally satisfied with the view and they don't need you to take them anywhere more spectacular.)

Homecoming Retreat 2023
Coming back to memories means sensing the moments in my body.
Feeling the calmness of unconditional acceptance in my chest.
Excitement of the unknown tingling in my feet.
Love of reconnection with dearest humans as warmth in the heart.
Thank you.

It has been three weeks since the last Homecoming wanderers left Strawberry Tree. When walking through the land, I still hear their voices, stories, songs, shadows, tears, and laughter. What happens when twelve women gather together in the warm arms of mothering nature?

Magic. And I am not shy to use this word, simultaneously holding awareness of how this word has been hijacked by the culture of forced positivity and spiritual bypassing. Magic, at its core, has a quality of awe, flow, and joy unfolding in spaces where control softens and trust in our innate wisdom and beauty takes a deeper breath. Phew, beauty, yet another charged word. Can I see beauty with fresh, unspoiled eyes? During 5 days dedicated to wholebeing, we saw each other as most beautiful. Soft in vulnerability, powerful in quality of care we could offer to each other and to our wounded parts, shining through creativity, youthful and flowy when opening towards pleasure, gentle when uncovering parts of us that carry trauma, fear, and rejection.

The shared experience feels sacred and I am humbled to be trusted as a guide towards individual and relational homecoming. Guide, uff, finally a word I feel comfortable with. Not a therapist, teacher, or a facilitator. Guiding, integrating wisdom of varied traditions, inviting relational practices, storytelling, art, expressive dance, ritual, embodiment, mindfulness… to create a gentle opening towards the Self and the many parts of us, especially those that have been silenced, ridiculed, forgotten, exiled. Guiding that is soft and almost invisible so many other guides can join the process of co-creation.

There were many of us, guides, nurturing the Homecoming process.
The deep blue ocean.
Wise women and mothers within each of us.
Eagle flying above our heads.
The wind.
The Sun.
The Moon.
The wave.
The corks trees stripped off their protective layers over and over again, rebuilding their skin with persistence.
Collective creativity and intuition flowing through attuned nervous systems.

Thank you to each of you, wise guides, for taking us on a path toward wholeness, sensuality, and compassion.
Love is still dancing in my heart
May it dance in yours.
