Chai Hu is often used when someone doesn’t feel fully sick, but doesn’t feel well either. It helps the body recalibrate when symptoms come and go or feel inconsistent. This causes symptoms like feeling irritable, tight, bloated, mood changes, headaches, premenstrual tension, feeling hot then cold or other irregular symptoms. Chai Hu helps release that pressure.

This is a formidable herb and one that is commonly used in formulas for a pattern of disharmony called Liver Qi Stagnation. When we say Liver, we’re not just talking about the physical organ.
We’re talking about a system that manages the stress response, emotional processing, digestion, and circulation.

Throughout our life we make small contractions, often unconsciously, and often in the abdomen, to stressors big and small. Liver Qi stagnation is the storing of stress that we don't find easy to release.
Imagine an elastic band that’s been stretched. Liver Qi stagnation is when the body stays pulled tight instead of relaxing back.
