Back to nature "resort" philosophy:
Companhia is a socio-ecological farm that produces organic food for its own consumption. But Companhia is so much more.

It’s a place where creativity can flourish and where people can get opportunities. A place where dreams can come true, where the impossible becomes reality. Companhia's mission is to search for a way of life in harmony with nature and therefor to live as sustainable as possible. This way, we want to minimize our dependence on modern society. It’s really a permanent search: to what extend is it pos

sible to provide for our own needs? Self-sufficiency is what we want to achieve, eventually. You could describe Companhia as a project that wants to evolve through the past. It means moving back to a natural way of living that also fits into the present. This isn’t possible without giving up certain luxuries, but… less is more! We make use of rural heritage, such as knowledge of medicinal plants, cultivation calendars and traditional ecological building methods. It is enhanced with modern but environmental friendly techniques such as led lighting, and ways of generating our own energy supplies. Our goal is to search for the ideal combination of traditional knowledge and new technologies, to find a balance between past, present and future. Opportunities:
Companhia is a place to give opportunities to many in very different ways. We like to be the accommodator of different projects such as workshops, youth camps, teambuilding, social projects, yoga retreat, … Everything is possible here. In 2012 we started a collaboration with a collective of ecological minded student architects (Dartele Bouwers). We gave them the freedom to design and build our communal room and bar space. They realized their first building before finishing studies. We give people who want to try this lifestyle the chance to experience nature in all its beauty. Several short and long term volunteers are staying with us, and together we keep on building up this project. As we live in a community we grow food for the guests that come next. Companhia likes to expand; not to benefit a few but to give more people the chance to renew contact with nature and fulfil their dreams. Companhia is a place where your creativity can flourish, a place where you can gather inspiration and let it come out. It’s wonderful if creative people have an idea and can work it out. Nature is art by itself, but nature is also a canvas to paint, a paper to write, a stone to sculpture, our stage to play on. Ecological farm:
The main objective of Companhia is to be a self-sufficient ecological farm. We produce all our food in an organic way with respect for nature. A big vegetable and herb garden is our natural supermarket. Besides, we collect what nature provides us in the wild (mushrooms, nuts, fruits, etc…). Animals are also an important part of our farm. They give us milk, eggs and the needed manure to feed the plants in the garden as well as the occasional bits of healthy meat. We also make our own cheese, bread, fruit juice, liquor, olive oil, soap, …

Companhia, the place where food is as real and pure as it can get. Campsite:
We are living in a time where it becomes very difficult to find a place where everything feels true, honest and real. More and more people have the need to escape the chaos of modern society for a while. They need a place to spend holidays and to disconnect from the daily routine. Companhia is a dream destination for a holiday in the free nature. Space enough to put up your tent on a beautiful spot. It’s a perfect playground for both grownups and children. Discovering the valley, building camps and taking part in the farm life are among the many things to experience. Guests get the chance to renew their contact with nature. That’s why only basic comfort is provided to the visitors in a natural and harmonious surrounding.

There is a lot to do at our Quinta during these hot days. Weeding, tree and bush cutting for fire prevention, raking, painting signs for our upcoming Unifant Festival!

Hello again! It was quiet here for a long time!

Let us introduce you our Quinta Companhia in Travancinha, in a valley close to the Serra Estrella mountains. We, Tobias, Sarah and Moya live here close to and in harmony with nature together with our two dogs Balu and Roxy, our pig Piggy, and our two horses Finario and Cygano.

Our biggest project so far is really verry little: Moya Jacobs, born 11th of February, 43cm, 2.650kg.
After an intense week in the hospital we are now settled in our new home and enjoying eachother. 😍

Dear Companhia friends,

The past two weeks we arranged ourselves temporary solutions which provided a starting point to rebuild Companhia. We build a temporary toilet, we constructed a new fence for the horses and the pig and put a lot of effort into fixing basic electricity and water infrastructure.

However, winter is coming soon and we urgently need to provide a decent shelter for ourselves.

This means that we need to rebuild the stable for the horses so they stay warm at night. We need to build a decent bathroom for ourselves because our temporary solution, despite the beautiful view, doesn't provide us the comfort we need for the winter. On top of that, we are having serious water shortages due to the dry weather and our main water pump has to be fixed.

Therefore your support is still very useful to rebuild Companhia. Anything you can do to help us is very much appreciated! Meanwhile we will keep you posted on our situation.

An update about our last days:
In the week after the forest fires we started building up again. We dug new canals for the electricity wires, we replaced the burnt water supply tubes and the animals have a new place to stay.
As of the beginning of this week grass and flowers started growing from the ashes and we started building the kitchen again!

Thanks to everyone for all the support!! We really appreciate it and keeps us motivated to go on.

As many of you have heard Companhia got hit by the recent forestfires (read: inferno) on the 15th of October. First of all we want to say that we are so happy and lucky to be alive! It was a scary day and night, we barely escaped with the 20 people that were present. Secondly we want to say that we are not alone, many others –including friends- lost even more and our hearts are also with them.

Despite this chaotic situation we immediately want to start rebuilding the past but also keep on building for the future and soon continue the construction of the Cozinha Taipa as its functioning, in the current situation, is even more crucial for a flourishing future.

To make this happen there is an urgent need for financial support and volunteers! More than ever we are ambitious to share this place with people, to become a platform for experiment in living together and living from the land. We would love to be completely up and running again by the summer of 2018.

Yesterday forestfires surrounded Companhia and we had to evacuate. We are all safe and healthy but in quite a shock after coming back this morning. The good news is that the houses are still intact except for the stable and the bathroom. We keep you posted!
