Taming the Walrus Yoga, Meditation & Breathwork for Vital Ageing

28/04/2026

Healthy ageing isn’t just about what you eat or how you look.

Your body needs movement. Your mind needs stillness.

Move often. Slow down intentionally. That balance is what supports vitality and authentic energy.

I love this quote!
We often think of exercise as something we do for our muscles, our heart, maybe even our mood. And when it comes to the brain? We picture crosswords, puzzles, or learning a new language.

But we now know that movement is brain work too!

Exercise doesn’t just strengthen your body. It improves memory. It protects against cognitive decline. It helps your brain stay resilient as you age.

So if you need motivation for your next workout, remember that you are not just building muscle… you're building a better brain.

NEW micro-practice video on YouTube about finding safety & soothing your nervous system (link in bio).

For those you are very short of time. This one is 6’53. Come on: only 6’53 out of 24 hours to look after yourself…
And then little by little, you can spend a bit more time on this practice.

Not everyone loves yoga or movement… and that’s okay.

Healthy ageing isn’t just about caring for your muscles, bones, or heart. It’s also about staying connected. Connected to other people, to your surroundings, and to Nature 🌿

So although I think EVERYONE should do yoga 🤣 (on the mat, on a chair, in-person, online it’s more than moving…) walking, laughing, feeling fresh air on your skin are also great to improve your well-being.

Move in ways that feel good for you … (yoga??🤣) And don’t forget: connection is part of the practice too.

I came across this sentence on Substack this week, written by a 63-year-old yoga teacher. I love it.

For me, it speaks to two things:

1. My yoga practice doesn’t have to be full of perfect-looking complicated poses
2. No matter what the pose looks like, the real magic of practice isn’t visible!

A photograph cannot reveal the release of wonderful chemicals when we stretch, strengthen, relax, reconnect..
It’s what we feel, not what we see!

If you don’t have time or energy for a full 30 or 60 min long class, you can still start a movement routine.

Start small!

Start with 5 min on a chair. Do this once, twice or three times a day, and notice the benefits.
Remember: Your body needs movement (and your mind needs stillness)

I started a new playlist on my YouTube channel with micro-practices. Check it out!

When awareness moves from the head into the whole body

Rest is not a luxury. It is a biological requirement.

Our body doesn’t strengthen during effort. It does so afterwards, when it feels safe enough to do the repair work…

But it has to be proper deep rest, not slouching on sofa in front of the TV! Think more: relaxation, yoga nidra… (YouTube video to come soon)

Deep rest is not weakness. It is intelligence.

Two essential points to remember to age healthily:
1. Your body needs movement
2. Your mind needs stillness.

(As Sakyong Mipham elegantly explains in Running with the Mind of Meditation)

Ok your body also needs stillness but if you remember the two points above, then you’ve covered it all 🥳

I am not talking about copying and pasting anymore but about rewritten captions, recycled ideas, and entire concepts taken from smaller creators and posted by bigger accounts like they came up with it first.

There’s a difference between ‘inspiration’ and straight-up copying.

Trends? Fine.
Putting your own spin on something? Great.
But taking someone’s original idea, format, or message and reposting it without credit? That’s not creativity, that’s theft.

And the worst part? The algorithm might actually reward it.

The original creator struggles for reach while the copied version goes viral.

Credit isn’t hard. Tag the person. Mention them. Acknowledge the source. When I teach a yoga sequence - or approach- I learned from another teacher, I always say it. For me, ig is intellectual honesty (maybe because I come from an academic background).

Because behind every ‘idea’ is someone who spent time thinking, creating, reading, researching..
Originality still matters. Always.

Can we talk about the phrase anti-ageing for a second?
What are we actually saying there?
That ageing is something to fight? To resist? To be ashamed of?
Ageing is a privilege.
Not everyone gets to grow older. Not everyone gets more time, more memories, more lessons.

So why are we treating it like a problem to fix?
What if we changed the narrative?

What if instead of anti-ageing, we chose pro-ageing?
Pro growing older and let’s focus on the growing part of ‘growing old.’

Now, healthy ageing? That’s something we can support. Taking care of our bodies, our minds, our energy: yes. Absolutely.

I’m choosing pro-ageing ✨
