A landmark day at Algarve Pain Centre.
A day of excellence, innovation and dedication led by our Head Surgeon, Dr. Ricardo Frada, and supported by our skilled surgical team, including Dr. João Ricardo Soares.
We successfully performed four advanced spine procedures, expanding our capabilities in minimally invasive spine surgery and marking the first use of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) at our centre: a new chapter in patient-centred care.
Case 1 – Anterior Cervical Arthrodesis (C4-C5)
Performed on a 76-year-old patient with chronic left-sided neck pain, limiting recreational activities like golf and tennis. Aimed at restoring cervical stability and relieving nerve compression.
Case 2 – UBE Foraminal Decompression (L5-S1, Right)
In our first Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy, we treated an 86-year-old patient suffering from right-sided L5 radiculopathy and reduced mobility. Minimally invasive decompression to alleviate nerve impingement.
Case 3 – TLIF Arthrodesis (L2-L3)
This patient, aged 79, presented with degenerative scoliosis and left-sided L3 radiculopathy, leading to progressive walking limitations. A left-sided TLIF was performed to stabilise the spine and restore function.
Case 4 – Percutaneous Fixation with Cemented Screws (D12-L4)
An 84-year-old patient with a traumatic L2 burst fracture (Type A4) and three months of disabling pain. Percutaneous stabilisation using fenestrated, cement-augmented screws to ensure spinal integrity with minimal disruption.
This surgical milestone reflects our ongoing mission to offer cutting-edge, patient-tailored treatments through minimally invasive techniques and surgical precision.
