Yoga meets Animal Movement 🧘‍♀️🐾

This week, I’m excited to bring this primal flow into our yoga sessions! Humans have been inspired by animals long before gyms or yoga studios existed—nature is the ultimate teacher 🌿.

Animal Movement is a playful, primal training style that mimics how animals crawl, leap, twist, and stretch — naturally building strength, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga shares this connection to nature, with poses like Cobra, Camel, and Butterfly that channel animal spirit and mindfulness.

These are questions we reflect on in Yoga Sūtra 1.3:
“Then the Seer rests in its true nature.”

Yoga Basics #9: The Power of Inversion Asanas🤸‍♂️

In yoga, an inversion is any pose where your heart is higher than your head. While often linked to advanced shapes like Handstand, they also include deeply restorative postures like Child’s Pose or Legs-Up-the-Wall.
The essence lies not in complexity, but in a conscious shift — in body, breath, and awareness.

Practice with care:
🪷 Warm up your shoulders, spine & core
🪷 Build strength slowly — especially arms & neck
🪷 Skip inversions if pregnant, menstruating, or managing heart/neck issues

Yoga Basics #8: The Calming Power of Forward Bends
🧘‍♀️✨ Slow down, soften, and fold into stillness.

Forward bends are more than stretches — they invite you to release, reconnect, and reset. These gentle poses calm your nervous system, lengthen your back, massage your organs, and guide you to inner peace through your breath.

Key Tips:
🪷 Start from the hips, not the spine — the hips act as a natural pivot, protecting spinal alignment.
🪷 Move slowly and mindfully, respecting your body’s limits.
🪷 Inhale to lengthen, exhale to soften and release.

Seated or standing, forward bends bring humility, presence, and calm to your yoga practice. Use props, keep a gentle bend in your knees, and let your breath lead.

This week, we’re halfway through our Yoga Basics Series!

✨Join us Tuesday or Thursday at 10 AM at Caldas Da Rainha for a deep dive into twisting poses — powerful tools to detox, restore balance, and energize your spine.

👉To practice twists safely and effectively, keep these key principles in mind:
- Sit tall with a long spine and lifted chest to avoid compressing the back.
- Use a folded blanket or cushion to elevate your hips.
- Initiate the twist from your mid-back (thoracic spine), not by pulling with your shoulders or turning your neck.
- Move slowly and let your heart lead the way, stay gentle and breathe deeply.

Come twist, breathe, and feel the shift.🪷
