We said a fond farewell to our previous General Manager, Mark Simper on May 29th. An informal get together was arranged at our head office on the last day of Marks tenure as GM. A presentation of gifts, including flowers to his wife Pauline, was made followed by a speech by Andy Beaney, Managing Director, Interserve IEC , during which Mark was thanked for 9 years of devoted service initially as Commercial Manager and then as GM of How United Services, it was acknowledged that he has played a very large part in the continuing success of our business and we are sure everyone appreciates his hard work and commitment, we wish him well in his new position as Commercial Director for the Interserve Oil and Gas business based in Abu Dhabi.

The American School of Doha (ASD) was originally founded as the American International School (AIS) in 1988. The name changed to ASD in August 1997 after major building work was completed on the campus. The 1997/98 school year began with an enrolment of 495 students. Today there are over 300 management, administrative and teaching staff and 2065 multi-national students representing 79 countries worldwide.

Built in the traditional style this Mosque and Majilis demonstrates and honours architectural features that are instantly recognisable as the look and feel of a bygone time in Qatar. A fusion of past and present is represented in this newly inaugurated Mosque and its adjoining Majilis, which were designed almost exclusively by our Chairman and donated to the State of Qatar, as all Mosques are, for the use of all who wish to pray.

This was a turnkey, project which saw HUS working in close collaboration with GCC, our associate company in Qatar, to complete this project to a very high standard, safely and on time for inauguration before commencement of the Holy Month of Ramadan. This was a very prestigious and high profile construction project which saw the completed buildings officially dedicated to the State of Qatar. The opening ceremony was attended by members of the ruling family, dignitaries and several top government ministers and officials.

How United Services were responsible for all of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and drainage works working closely with the construction company. We also installed all of the HVAC, Fire Alarm and Fire Protection Systems as well as the Data/TV cabling.

Qatar Cool (The Qatar District Cooling Company) provides continuous chilled water to the air conditioning units of residential and commercial buildings in Qatar. How United Services has been working in partnership with Qatar Cool since 2004 as their preferred contractor for their Energy Transfer Station (ETS) installations and Pipe Distribution Network (PDN) branches, and more recently Hot Tapping and redirection excavations.

The FM team mobilised for the opening of the new campus of Doha College West Bay have continued to be busy throughout August, getting ready for the official opening day on Sunday 8th September. All the civil works were completed in August and this was followed immediately by the commencement of the cleaning program, which includes keeping the perimeter areas clean and tidy using the HUS Reach and Wash System.
This is in addition to all the necessary civil works and PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance)

How United Services are proud to be responsible for the full MEP upgrade and fit out that took place prior to The State Audit Bureau moving its office premises to Al Deeble Tower. The design specification was very precise with some of the lighting and interior design features being imported from America and Europe. The building itself is not a new one and HUS met the challenge of upgrading the MEP to fit the new contemporary look and feel that the Audit Bureau required from the commissioned renovations.

Well done to all of the HUS fit out team who were involved in works on the new QIB (Qatar Islamic Bank) Model Branch which opened recently in Muaither. This is a new look branch with upgraded technology and is the first phase in the launch of a new initiative by QIB to bring a fresh banking experience to their customers. The opening of this branch received extensive media coverage and is seen as an important project by HUS who are proud to be assisting QIB in rolling out their new concept branch network.
