DROP TEST FOR SAFETY NET IN CONSTRUCTION SITE
The drop test is conducted to make sure that the safety net and their installations are able to withstand the impact force generated by a falling object or a person. In this test, 400- pound (180kg) bag of sand from a specific height into the safety net.the bag of the sand should have a diameter of 30inches (76cm).
The drop should be from the highest/walking/work surface at which employees are exposed fall hazard.the hight of the drop should not be less than 42 inches (1.1) above the level.
Drop test is a specific test required by OSHA regulations (specifically, OHSA 29 CFR 1926.504(C)(4)(I) to evaluate the strength and performance of safety nets used as fall protection system in construction workplace.
Note: the drop test is required under various
circumstances including:
- After initial installation of the safety net.
-Before using the safety net as a fall protection system.
- After relocating the safety net.
-After major repair of the safety net.
- 6 monthly interval if the next remains in one place.
